Steeler fans adore Three Rivers Stadium as a shrine... I look at it as the Mistake by Three Rivers!
Sure the Steelers won a handful of Super Bowls while calling this plastic Pittsburgh park home... and the Pirates even won a pair of World Series Championships in the 70's, but at the risk of insulting Mrs. Fields, this is just another Cookie Cutter Stadium from the tie-dye era...
The seats are plastic, the Astroturf field is plastic, and the food tastes like plastic. From its symmetrical fences, to its collapssing grey concrete, Three Rivers Stadium is so sterile they should hold open heart surgeries at second base.
I long for the days of funky old Forbes Field... with its Mazeroskie memories, real food, and old-fashioned design!!!!!
Parking is non-existent and would normally be a problem except Pirate fans quit attending the Mistake by Three Rivers decades ago, preferring to wait for a real ballpark... while the Pirates have financially hemoraged, nearly to death!
The Mistake by Three Rivers, like Vet Stadium, its cookie-cutter twin Shea Stadium, and Riverfront Stadium, was the dream of efficiency experts looking to cram as many tractor pulls between ballgames, "damn the fans, but pack the park!" It should never have been built!
Fortunately, politicians of all Pittsburgh people, have come to the rescue... The consstruction of nearby PNC Park is aalmost finished and the Mistake by Three Rivers will be a distant memory... not a moment too soon.
