Complete guide to day at Wrigley
Transportation: DO NOT DRIVE. The EL is an easy and fun way to get to the game. If you have to drive, park north of the Irving Park Road/Near Sheridan. Street parking is available and it is nice to walk south on Sheridan about 4 blocks. It will give you a feel for the neighborhood-Sheridan turns into Sheffield about two blocks from the park. If you are really early take a right on Grace and walk up two blocks to Alta Vista Street- it is a historic and quaint anomaly of tidy row houses in the neighborhood.
Once you get to Sheffield and Waveland stop into Murphy's Bleachers-famous bar at the SE corner of Sheffield and Waveland. Go in the back entrance and avoid the tourists. Good burgers and brats (better than across the street at the park). Checkout the scale model of wrigley in the way back bar of murphy's.
Walking toward the ball park stop and pick-up peanuts on sheffield just north of Addison. There is a bald, short guy there who you can chat-up and buy peanuts on the cheap.
Younger crowd should try to get bleacher seats. Entrance right across the street from Murphy's. Tickets are usually being sold right in front of the Murphy's. You cannot get to the main seats from the bleachers and vice versa. Get your beer on the ramp on your way to your seat, no vendors out there. Sit in rightfield and keep your eyes and ears open for Ronnie Woo Woo (you will know him when you hear him).
Tickets in the field boxes and down the lines are in the sun (the bleachers are all in the sun)-until July 1 there is a good chance you will be freezing if you are not in the sun. Bring a jacket.
One strategy is to buy Standing Room Only Tickets and then keep your eyes peeled for seats that appear to be unused. The ushers at Wrigley have an average age of about 75 so you can usually slip in unnoticed. Other places to scalp tickets are infront of the 7-11 on Sheffield and Addison, right outside the EL station, or the souvenier stands' proprietors usually have ideas.
After the game head north on Clark Street two blocks. Good restaurants and bars in this area. My favorite is the Gingerman. Great selection of beers, pool tables in the back and a little calmer than the fraternity type bars nearer to the park. Nice sit down food at the Raw Bar and Tuscany. Yawkzys has good bar food.
Enjoy.
