| burbsthing's Full Review: Wrigley Field |
If you are around Chicago in summer and have any interest at all in baseball Wrigley Field is a must see. From the carnival atmosphere outside the park to the dignified American classicism of the park itself Wrigley is a one of a kind experience. I generally go to 8-12 games a year there and each time it is an exciting an unique experience. I've been to about a half a dozen other parks and none come close to comparing.
If you are a baseball fan you already know why you must go. If you aren't a baseball fan, but wonder why this sport has the most dedicated following of any sport in the U.S., although no the biggest following, Wrigley will show you why. Starting it's 87th season it is the second oldest park in the Major Leagues, and while there have been changes made, you get the feeling of how it felt to go to a game in the 1920's.
The seating areas are close to the field so you can see everything that happens on the field, unless you have a seat behind a post, which there are more than a few of. There is the typical selection of ball park food, dogs, pop, beer, nachos, etc.
Since most of the games are day games, it's a good idea to make an all day trip of this. Parking isn't the best, but that is one of the charms of Wrigley, the spirit of it being in a neighborhood rather than in the middle of a vast parking lot. Parking is usually available close to the park, if your willing to pay. Otherwise street parking is usually available within 10 blocks if you enjoy walking, a great way to see the neighborhood. Or else you can park in Evanston or off of Clark in the city and take the Red Line El, $1.50 each way. For after the game there are a number of beverage purveying establishments close by as well as many grilles and burrito joints.
