A TV quiz show where there are no super-geniuses? I'm not kidding, I'm talking about Who Wants To Be A Millionaire! Average people make their way to a million bucks. 15 questions that aren't that hard compared to Jeopardy! What's so hard you ask? The stress and descisions over what to risk makes this one of my favorite shows.
Regis Philbin, the popular talk show host, hosts this show. It came out as a mini series that was expected to do pretty average, and then die down. Obviously, they were wrong, and now it's a full time TV series. A good part about this is that families can watch together. The show premiered in August of 1999. Soon after, it was the #1 show on television.
The first millionaire was a Connecticut native named John Carpenter. He used his first lifeline to tell his dad he was going to win a million dollars (lifelines are a 50/50, where 2 wrong answers are taken away, a phone-a-friend, where you can call anybody in America, and ask the audience, where you poll the audience). Soon after, Dan Blontzky, Joe Trela, and a couple others won a million dollars! With Carpenter as an exception, the others were not 100% sure, though somewhat sure of the million dollar question.
This is a great show to watch alone or with your family, so give it a try. I know this is supposed to be a review on ABC, but this is a great show. ABC has other quality shows!
