I am writing today about a family favorite in our house. It is the morning line-up on the Disney Channel called Playhouse Disney. Up until about a 9 months ago we never watched the Disney channel in our house, but as we know the addition of a new baby changes everything! As my baby and I play in the mornings, we like to have Playhouse Disney on the television. Most of the shows are geared for toddlers and pre-schoolers, but my baby loves the pretty colors, the stories and the music. Some of our favorites are....
PB&J OTTER:
To be honest...this is my husband's favorite show on the Playhouse Disney. Yes he loves the opening song and dances with the baby to it! It is a cartoon about a family of otters and all of their animal friends who live on Lake Who-Ha. Peanut, Jelly and Baby Butter use their "noodles" to come up with solutions to their every day problems. They do a special "Noodle Dance" to help them think their way out of all kinds of situations. The song is quite catchy and our baby loves bopping along to it... as do Mom and Dad. "Noodle... use your Noodle...Noodle.. Do the Noodle Dance!" Keep an eye out for adventures with their friends, Flick the duck, Munchy the beaver, the Snooty's, and many more! My husband frequently comments that he wishes life could actually be like that on Lake Who-Ha. Maybe if the world were to use its "Noodle"... ya never know what could happen!
THE BOOK OF POOH:
Join Winnie the Pooh and all of his friends from the Hundred-Acre Wood in this fun, yet educational program. This show uses adorable puppets from the Winnie the Pooh stories with the colorful backdrop of the Hundred-Acre wood to add the atmosphere. Every morning Mr. Narrator tells two stories about Pooh and his friends...Piglet, Eeyore, Owl, Tigger, Rabbit, Kessie, Kanga and Roo. They learn a lesson or two in each story, as well as sing catchy songs that you can't help but enjoy. For example today in one of the stories, Owl taught the gang about Shakespeare and plays. In other stories they have learned that everyone has special gifts no matter what their shape or size. My little one is too young to fully appreciate all that Pooh has to offer, but she really enjoys the songs.
ROLIE POLIE OLIE:
Rolie Polie Olie is another colorful cartoon about the robotic Polie Family. Olie is the little robot boy who lives on the Round Planet with his parents, his sister Zoe and their dog Spot. This cartoon has a really great song for its opening too! The show reminds me of an old 50's sitcom where everything is "okie-dokie!" Everything in their world is robotic from the house to the furniture. There is always a lesson to be learned, but there is always a lot of fun to be had too. Sometimes there are special appearances by their television hero, Space Boy or Billy, his robot friend from the square planet. I really think his little sister Zoe is absolutely adorable, and is perfect as a toddler little sister. I will admit that sometimes the mothers voice grates on my nerves, but you get use to it after a while. Rolie Polie Olie is the swellest kid around!
OUT OF THE BOX:
My daughter just LOVES Out of the Box. This is a show featuring real adults and children. Toni and Vivian are two adults who build a playhouse out of boxes in the back yard, which then turns into this really fun playhouse for the neighborhood kids. They watch 3 children during the day, and do all sorts of fun things. There is "Story Time", where they act out stories that Toni or Viv tell. There is "Craft Time", where they show how to make all sorts of easy and fun crafts for children. There is also "Music Time", where they sing or play instruments. This show really encourages children to use their imaginations! They sing, dance and have so much fun! My daughter loves watching the children. She also enjoys dancing to the music and songs. Where this is one of my daughters favorites, I will say it is not up there on my list. I find that the cast "over-acts" which is typical for childrens shows, but it is annoying to me none the less.
BEAR AND THE BIG BLUE HOUSE:
This is another one that my daughter just loves. This features the wonderful puppets from Jim Hensons workshop. Bear is a giant, but lovable bear who lives in a big blue house. Bear has some adorable friends; such as Ojo the little bear, Tutter the blue mouse, plus many others, who join in with him on all the fun. There are stories to be told, lessons to be learned and songs to be sung! The puppets are interesting, colorful and full of pizzazz! This show really keeps my daughters attention. She bounces and squeals whenever she sees the characters. She loves when I sing with Bear and Luna (the moon) at the end of the show.
STANLEY:
Stanley is our newest friend at Playhouse Disney! This is MY favorite show. It is a cartoon about a little boy named Stanley who lives with his parents, brother, cat, dog and fish. Stanley REALLY loves animals. Every show has 2 segments where we learn something new about animals from the "Great Big Book of Everything!" His cat and dog sing this very catchy song every time the "Great Big Book of Everything" is used! Stanley and his fish, Dennis, will hop into the book to see what it is like to be the animal or sometimes the animal will come to Stanley's home! Yes.. the shark swimming around in the living room probably wasn't a good idea, Stanley! I love how whenever his big brother, Lionel, comes into the room a hip-hop type rap music plays. He has great parents, and sometimes even has adventures with the twin neighbor girls. Stanley really is something everyone should check out!
Besides having these great shows, Playhouse Disney also has Mini-Movies and Circle Time instead of commercials. There are NOT commercials on the Disney channel! Instead they advertise their own shows. Those advertisements are just as fun and musical as the show is! Mini-Movies are short clips; such as, Frankenguy and the Professor and Pablo the red fox. Circle Time features Steve and a group of children telling stories that teach a lesson.
In closing, our family really LOVES Playhouse Disney! It has the wonderful quality that is typical of the Disney name. Have fun and enjoy a morning with Disney!
