With digital cable, satellite dishes, etc. making every kind of programming (good, bad and ugly) available at your (and your children's ) fingertips, Nickelodeon is a welcome relief for parents like myself that find it challenging to monitor what our children view on television. Children of today are definitely more sophisticated compared to a decade ago. Having said that, entertainment for kids has had to keep up the pace. Nickelodeon offers something for children of all ages with programming that speaks to kids at their level -- in language they understand, can relate to, and actually pay attention to such as "All That" for older kids or "Rug Rats" for younger children. I have to pat the writers on the back for keeping up with the "lingo" of today's kids and being able to use this lingo in programs that still teach family values, morals, etc. Nickelodeon also doesn't loose sight of the programs that offer the basics -- ABC's and 123's such as "Blues Clues" and "Maisy," but now in a upbeat and "hip" fashion that, again, children can relate to and still find interesting.
Nickelodeon also has a website and various chat rooms for children to participate in. This site is regulated and is "open" only at various times which promotes planning and structure. Their site also offers services such as help with homework, research, etc. that serves as an invaluable tool and is user-friendly for kids.
So, if you have kids, program the channel and bookmark the site!
