I don't have small children at home anymore, my boys are now 12 and 18. We don't do much watching of Nickelodeon during the day. I want to talk about what comes on Nick-At-Nite and how wonderful it is to relive the great shows that I grew up watching as a child.
I find myself watching these shows many nights and still laughing, enjoying and remembering the first time I watched these shows as a child and teenager.
When the sun goes down Nick-At-Nite makes the stars shine bright. I have even found my two children enjoying these "old" shows as they call them. I don't really like that term, because I don't consider myself as being old. I do thing that I grew up when some of the best shows ever made were on television and now I get to enjoy them again thanks to Nickelodeon. I would like to list a few of my favorites here:
1. I Love Lucy - This show can give you some of the best laughs. Although the shows are in black and white, they still offer so much. The antics of Lucy and Ricky Ricardo and Fred and Ethel Mertz, will keep you laughing throughout the entire show. This was a great television show and to me is timeless just because of the comedy. I didn't grow up watching it, but have always watched the reruns. Some I have seen numerous times, but they still make me laugh.
2. The Brady Bunch - This show is probably more popular today than when it originally aired. This is a look at a step family with 6 kids and they things that went on in their lives. It may not be the way things really are, but it definitely makes us wish things were like that in all step-family homes. This is one of my kids favorites to watch. I think they get a good laugh out of the clothes worn on this show. I think every one can sing the theme song to this wonderful show. "Here's the story of a lovely lady...."
3. The Jefferson's - This is one of the first shows that I remember showing a wealthy black family. George, Weezy, and Florence the maid make for a great comedy team. I loved this show the first time it was on TV and still find myself laughing at George and his views of "Honkies" as he called them. Great show and timeless lessons told with humor.
4.Bewitched - What more can I say, at one time or another we all have wished we could twich our noses and have housework, meals cooked and things taken care of that way. I find myself with that wish daily. A great show for the whole family. Lots of good laughs and great actors on this show.
5.All in The Family - Never has there been a show like this one. Who couldn't get a good laugh out of Archie, Edith, Mike, Gloria. Archie and his prejudices have been examined in this show. But over the years we got to see a kinder, gentler Archie Bunker. This is probably a show more for adults, not sure the kids would understand it. But is a great laugh for me.
6.The Wonder Years - I was not a regular viewer of this show when it originally aired on TV. But have really enjoyed watching this story, told from a child's perspective as I have grown older. This is another show I find my youngest watching the most. A good family story with lots of lessons to learn.
This channel has brought back to nighttime television some of the classics of my growing up years. It has made it possible for a new generation of viewers to enjoy these wonderful shows, that I was lucky enough to grow up watching.
Thanks Nickelodeon for giving us a great place to remember our childhood and the great programs we got to enjoy as children. Thanks also for giving me a chance to share these shows with my children. Keep up the good work for the next generation. Quality television is still there for all to see, just tune in to Nick-At-Nite.
