Ok...I'll admit it....I am the owner of a Q-Card.
On occasion, I have been known to actually sit through a presentation of jewelry I don't need, clothing I don't like, or tools that I know will only sit in the garage. I'm not sure what the attraction is.... perhaps it's the concept of being able to shop from the Lay-Z-Boy. Maybe it's this need I have to watch the host stumble as she is trying to describe that Beanie Baby for another 3 minutes (how many times can you say "It's going to be retire so don't miss out" before your audience reaches for the remote instead of the phone?). But whatever the reason, I am an occasional QVC shopper.
My favorite time to tune into QVC is during Collector's Day. On this series of shows, usually shown several times a year, you can see 24 solid hours of nothing but the top collectible lines, such as Boyd’s Bears (My personal favorites), Thomas Kinkade, Fenton Glass, and Marie Osmond Dolls. Other than this special series of show, I just occasionally stop and check out the programming while I'm channel surfing. I think I'm afraid to spend too much time actively viewing this station because of the damage I might do to that Q-Card. I will admit to doing a good deal of my Christmas shopping with QVC this year so right now my Q-Card is on a diet. QVC will also send you a monthly viewing guide that has a detailed programming schedule which can be very helpful if you're looking for a particular product.
Like anything in life, QVC has an upside as well as a downside. Some of the products sold on QVC are exclusive to them, so you will not find them anywhere else. Sometimes you can find a great deal. I got a fantastic deal on my Lexmark printer from QVC and I just happened to find it while channel surfing! However, sometimes you can actually find an item for less in your local stores (the George Foreman grill was a lot less at my local department than on QVC), so you need to have an idea of the value of things that are being presented. If you're not a value minded shopper, then the convenience of having something shipped right to your home may be worth the extra cost. I personally hate to pay the excessive shipping and handling charge imposed by QVC. I find it to be out of line with similar shopping services.
Another great feature of QVC is their website. www.qvc.com. You can order online instead of calling your order in (much quicker when the phones lines are tied up). I use this service quite often to order things ahead of showtime when I know what the order number is. I also like their online member services. I can track my order from their warehouse to my doorstep, as well as access my account to see my balance at anytime. That is a very convenient feature that I use quite often. I've also found their live customer service to be courteous and helpful and their return policy is the best there is. If you don't like something you've ordered, simply return it for credit, no questions asked!
SO, if some night you're flipping mindlessly through the TV channels, be sure to stop at QVC. You might find a bear, lamp, or wrench set that you can't live without :o)
