I have been an active (as in purchasing and watching constantly) member of QVC for over fourteen years. Yes, I even knew the original hosts that started with this network. One of my favorite hosts was Kathy Levine. That lady could sell me anything! She had a very witty sense of humor and would keep me entertained for hours. Whenever I had trouble sleeping, I would always turn on QVC until I fell asleep! I have to admit that since I have found Epinions, there are some days that I do not even turn my television on! It definitely has saved my credit cards!
I did not only watch QVC to purchase items. The hosts would explain the products and go into great detail about how they were made or what they represented. I found this network to be a learning center and I got quite a bit of knowledge about the different styles of gold and gemstones and how the jewerly was made. This helped me to appreciate the different styles of gold chains. One of my favorite 14k gold necklaces is the figaro link chain. It is very sturdy and the diamond cutting on the gold gives it a lot of glitter when the light hits it. They sold different types of jewerly, like 14k gold, 18k gold, 24k gold, silver, and their own brand of diamondlike stones which they named Diamonique.
Considering how much they sold and how large the quantities of items that they purchased, I think they could have sold these products a little cheaper. I noticed recently that they have come out with their own brand of coffee, cooking pans (Cook Essentials), their several different lines of clothing like Denin & Co. which is a very casual bluejean clothing that is really comfortable and affordable. If I ordered anything that I didn't like or if it didn't fit, they would take it back as long as it was within thirty days of the purchase.
They have their own linen beddings named Northern Nights. I have purchased some of their knit sheets and they wash well and appear to be good quality merchandise. QVC stands for Quality, Value, and Convenience. I think that what attracted me to this network was how easy it was to order an item by touchphone without having to talk to anyone. But now they even have iQVC where you can research different items and order on line. I felt that the biggest drawback of using QVC was the shipping and handling cost. If you had to return an item, you were out the shipping and handling and insurance to mail it back to them. One time I returned a Stan Herman robe which was around $40 and did not insure the package. I had never had any problems with losing anything in the mail until then! So if I ever have to send anything back I now make sure that I insure the package.
QVC has what they call the TSP, which is the Today's Special Value" item. Every night at midnight EST they present a TSP which is good for the next 24 hours unless they sell out of the item. If that happens, then each host gets a one time only item that they lower the price on for that hour. One of my favorite times to watch QVC is when they have the Gold Rush. They will get in large amounts of just a few styles of gold and sell them at very good prices. The 14k gold usually averages $17/gram. But on the Gold Rush, I have gotten bracelets as low as $14 per gram. The biggest problem with QVC is that it is addicting! You get to learn a lot about the hosts that present the products and they start to feel like old friends. When Kathy Levine, one of the original hosts left after over fourteen years, they had a good-bye finale showing some of the clips of her on television in the earlier years and all of her funny hairdos!
Almost everything that I purchased was delivered by UPS. The UPS delivery guy got to be a friendly face in my neighborhood. Unless you order something special delivery, it usually takes from 7 to 10 working days to get to you. QVC accepts a wide variety of credit cards, personal checks and money orders. If you do not have a credit card, they even have their own Q-card that you can sign up for. Of course the interest rate is extremely high and I would not recommend using it unless you are lucky enough to pay it off in the next thirty days.
They have a lot of stars that sell their products including Marie Osmond who has her own doll line and Joan Rivers who sells jewelry that she designs herself. She even has her daughter designing her own line of jewelry. Another famous name is Lee Sands who specializes in eelskin pocketbooks, billfolds, belts, and his own line of jewelry. Linda Dano from the soap operas has her own accessaries. Annette Funicello has her own line of collector's bears. There are many more well-known stars and brands that are available.
I have purchased jewerlry, clothing, bed linens, handpainted dishes, silverware, T-fal cooking pans and Cook Essentials cooking pans and different brands of hair care systems like Nick Chavez and Victoria Principle. At one point they even sold Ty Beanie Babies that were very hard to find and their prices were very high. I would not buy this from them, because they should have been in the designated stores for people to purchase at the regular prices.
Since I have been reading and writing epinions, my thoughts are no longer with watching QVC as much. I have saved quite a bit of money by keeping my television turned off of QVC. I do think that their prices could be lowered since they purchase items in vast amounts. I learned quite a lot about different products by using this shopping network. They have one host from West Virginia who is Bob Bowersox, and he is an excellent cook and has cooking shows mostly on Sunday evenings and will e-mail you his recipes at your request. If you do turn on QVC, I would recommend getting someone to hide your credit cards, because it can be quite addicting!
