Let me think a moment. Before last summer I watched TNN for approximately 10 minutes in my lifetime. I just didn't enjoy the program lineup or the pure country attitude the network showed. Then something happened that changed all that. The WWF moved from USA network to The Nashville...make that The National Network.
Now, even though I wish I didn't have to, I watch TNN every Monday night. Yes, if it wasn't for the WWF switching over, I probably would only see TNN while flipping through the channels. Yet because it's become part of my channel lineup (You know, when there's nothing on I surf through my favorite channels) and I've found myself watching a little bit of TNN here and there. Let me share with you the wonders I discovered.
The Dukes of Hazard. That's their most heavily promoted show. The Dukes of Hazard. A show that was a hit over 20 years ago. That's what TNN shoves down our faces. Well we always have the option not to watch right? During two hours of Raw is War there were 3 ads for The Dukes of Hazard. 3 ads for a show that's about as popular as televised bass fishing. Wait a minute, doesn't TNN air that too?
Alright, maybe I'm a bit biased on the shows. Let's talk about the movies. Oh wait, none of those. Ok, let's talk about the network commercials. Ever since the name change, there have been commercials chanting the slogan, "We've Got Pop!" Some of these commercials include messages from people calling in and describing what Pop is to them. A lot of them describe their small towns and some of TNN's quality shows. By quality shows I'm referring to...you guessed it...The Dukes of Hazard.
Ok, ok. When you push aside The Dukes of Hazard, the terrible commercials, and the irritating slogan, you are left with a pretty cheap network. Half their shows are old reruns and the other half caters to a select group with fishing, roller derby, bullriding, and any other cliquish country programs you can think of. I'm sorry, but if this is The National Network, I'm moving overseas.
