Okay, I'll admit it. I'm addicted to the Weather Channel. I'm sure that if we delve deep enough into my past we'll see that it all began with my parents. You see, I grew up on a farm-and not just any farm-a farm in the SOUTH. If there is anything that's a topic off conversation among Southern farmers, it's the weather. Of course, we lived so far out in the country that we didn't have cable. Instead we predicted the weather by instinct.
I briefly overcame my obsession during the time that I was on active duty in the military. Everyone knows that it doesn't rain in the United States Army so I had little use for weathermen then. I knew, however, that my addiction was only lying dormant during that time because I waited anxiously everyday for the wet bulb heat index report.
During the next few years I married and settled down in Southern Alabama, just 90 miles inland of the Florida Gulf Coast. Hurricane watching was a favorite past time there and I was in my element. Not only that, but I discovered the Weather Channel-24 hours of the most up to date and comprehensive weather you could find. I've been a junkie ever since.
I am presently living in the area of the country fondly known as Tornado Alley. What could be better for a weatherwoman wannabe, huh?
All kidding aside, over the past few years the Weather Channel begins and ends my day. It's a great source for not only local weather, but you can see what's happening in other areas of the country and what's on it's way to you. Many times my family has depended on these experts for early warning in the event of a catastrophic weather event that could have turned out much worse had we not been forewarned and prepared for it. In the past few years we've been through hurricanes, tornadoes, flooding, etc., and I am appreciative of the men and women at the Weather Channel who kept us informed throughout.
