I really never expected to be writing an opinion on "The Weather Channel", but this spring we found out just how important this channel can be.
Living in Texas in the spring time is a scary time of year. You never know when or where a storm will pop-up out of nowhere. This exact scenario played out in our area this past spring.
We had been outside sitting by the pool and enjoying the wonderful spring day, when we noticed dark clouds starting to move in. We immediately went inside our house and turned on the television. Our local stations had business as usual, so we felt that it was just a pop-up spring time thunderstorm. While switching through the channels we got to the Weather Channel and there was a loud beeping and a severe storm bulletin was being played across the entire screen of our TV. We quickly switched back to our local channel and still nothing. As my husband began to turn back to the Weather Channel our cable went out, nothing new in my area. Since we still had electricity we signed onto the internet and went to the Weather Channel sight, were we found there was a tornado just about 15 miles from our house and seemed to be moving our way.
The Weather Channel online kept us up to date until the storm had passed and we felt safe. I had not realized, until that point that not only did our local channels not have any coverage of this storm, but the Weather Channel was covering it not only on the television but also online.
We have since that time made the Weather Channel our trusted channel for local weather alerts and tornado warnings. Since our cable seems to go out if the wind blows just a small amount, it was nice to know that we could go from the Weather Channel on television, to the Weather Channel online and get the same great coverage.
Living in a small town in rural East Texas, I have found this to be the best channel for weather coverage in our area. Thanks Weather Channel for giving us great coverage, even out here in the "sticks".
