Pros:Great female vocals, interesting twist on the metal/hardcore bit.
Cons:I find none, but some people might not like Candace's voice.
The Bottom Line: Great, solid music!!!!
A few months ago, I was paruising some metal and hardcore sites to find some good music. I then stumbled uponWalls of jericho. But don't let the biblical name fool you. WOJ hails from Detriot, home of American made cars and rock. What sets this band apart from the medley genre of hardcore is the singer, Candace. Some you will be quick to dismiss this, but you have to give it a chance! This is without a doubt, this is one of the best hardcore debut along with Poison the Well. Both are on the label Trustkill records. (www.trustkill.com)
The members are.....
Aaron • bass
Candace • vocals
Wes • drums
Chris • guitar
Mike • guitar
But on to their music.....
Bound Feed the Gagged has 11 mind-blowing tracks on it. The first one called "Playing Soldier Again" and begins with Candace giving you a taste of her rather masculine screams. Accompanied by that are the brutal riffs of the guitars and the manic drumming. So far so good. Many of the songs aren't about the typical hardcore anger. WOJ makes comments about equality in "Changing Times", war in "Playing Soldier Again", and rape in "Misanthropy." To me, the most stand out track is "Angel." it's nothing more than Candace and the acoustic guitar. it sounds straight out of Metallica in the intro to "Fade to Black." It's a 180 degree flip from their mosh-inducing music, to a soft and beautiful melody.
If you like Poison the Well, Kittie or Glassjaw, you'll enjoy this, or if you just want a change of pace. So go out and get this CD!
