Pros:It stayed completely true to the original book, and had a great cast.
The Bottom Line: This was an amazing movie with a great cast, director, and writer.
After reading the very popular book "The Outsiders", a friend of mine told me about the movie. I wasn't able to see it right away, but I watched clips of it on the internet. I had already fallen in love with the book, and now it was the same with the movie.

Most movies that are based on books don't really stay true to most of the events, and never have the depth and understanding of the story, but this one did. The cast did an amazing job and really brought out the character as best they could.
I really admire the way Francis Coppola created this movie, with the help of the writer, S.E. Hinton. The setting they chose, was Hinton's hometown and it was perfect. The houses were small, old looking, and they fit the descriptions in the story very well.
As for the actors, I was mezmorized. C. Thomas Howell, who played the role of Ponyboy Curtis looked so young, acted so carefree, yet made the character so dreamy, different from the other greasers. Ralph Macchio did an amazing job aswell, although he spent most of the movie lying on a hospital bed. He displayed a lot of feeling for his fellow greasers, and I could tell he looked up to the, as did Ponyboy.
Overall this was definitely one of the best movies I have ever seen.
