The Bottom Line: For fans of edge of your seat horror

The Ring is a great supernatural horror movie. I'm serious. It makes you jump at all the right places and it is interesting the whole time because you're always sitting there watching and waiting for something scary to happen and that's something I love about horror movies.

The story begins as two teenage girls named Katie and Becca are having a sleepover at Katie's house. Becca asks Katie if she has heard of the tape that supposedly kills people. When Katie asks more about it, Becca tells her if you put it in the VCR, it shows a whole bunch of frightening images and after it's over you get a phone call. The person on the other end of the phone tells you "Seven days..." and that means you have seven days to live. Katie freaks out and tells Becca she has seen that tape exactly one week ago. Becca and Katie go downstairs to answer the phone and when Becca leaves the room to go the bathroom Katie starts to see and experience weird things. Running back upstairs she sees water on the floor in the hallway coming out of her room. Turning the handle and opening the door she screams as something jumps out of a well on the screen of the black and white television and rushes at her causing her to deform into a grotesque version of herself. When Katie's aunt, Rachel goes to pick her son Aiden up from school, she learns that Aiden has been drawing pictures of Katie's death a week before she died. Rachel finds out about the tape that supposedly killed Katie and goes on a quest for answers after the tape is viewed by her and her son and they get a call telling them they have seven days. Enlisting the help of a guy named Noah, they set off to stop the spirit on the tape from killing them.

Naomi Watts plays Rachel and she does an amazing job. She is perfect and keeps your eyes glued to the screen as she tries to save herself and her son. Aiden is played by David Dorfman and no offense, but I just wanted to choke him sometimes because he acts so whiny and simple minded. He was just plain annoying. Noah is played by Martin Henderson and the way he tries to help Rachel because he loves her is one aspect of the movie I thought was good. I also liked how he and Rachel got together near the end. Amber Tamblyn plays Katie and her performance was the best one on the movie seeing as how she acted horrified at the right moments and how she was so frightened when she ran upstairs in the beginning. Rachael Bella plays Becca and the way she is such a good friend to Katie and how she reacts when Katie tells her she has seen the tape is a performance I really got into seeing as how Becca is left alive and she was an important part of the story.

All of the actors and actresses did wonderful and I thought it was amazing how they used special effects to make the movie more frightening and it was something I was pleased with. I actually got scared in the beginning when the spirit rushed out of the television and killed Katie and that is something that is rare when I watch horror movies. All in all, a good job and a movie that will still be one of my favorites for years.
