In the past 4 years I have traveled well over a million miles on EVA Airways, in all 4 classes. The following is my review of each of the 4 classes:
Economy: Eva's Economy Class is quite good. Prices are competitive with other airlines, and the service and food are slightly better than most US Domestic Airlines. Comfort is the same as any other airline, except for the fact that EVA's Economy seats have seat back leg rests, which can make a difference on long haul flights.
Evergreen Deluxe Class (Also known as Economy Deluxe): Nearly Business Class for half the Business class price! If you are looking for business class comfort, with out the linen tray cloths and crystal glassware, Evergreen Deluxe Class is there for you. Wider seats, leg rests, more leg room, individual seat back TVs, and "better than economy" food are features of ED Class. In addition you get 125% mileage in the EVA frequent flyer program. The cost for a US-Asia RT ticket is usually about $50-200 higher than economy. I usually pay about $850 R/T from Seattle to Bangkok for ED Class. Don't bother looking for an ED Ticket on the internet. I have yet to find a airline booking sight that allows you to select a class other than Economy, Business, or First. Try a travel agent that specializes in Asian travel.
Super Business Class: Excellent Service and food selection. Personal video monitors, and nice travel overnight kits. The seats are wide and the leg room excellent, but the seats are a bit too firm. On the transpacific Routes, food can differ depending on the seating configuration. The 747-400 Combi has both Business and First on the upper level, which means that the food for First and Business is the same - EXCELLENT. The standard 747-400 has all Business on the upper level and First on the lower level up front. Since Business and First are separated, the quality of the Business class food goes down a notch.
My suggestion is go with the ED class, and only fly business on an upgrade. The difference in quality/comfort is much less than the difference in the price of the tickets.
Super First: Hardly any difference than business class. Super First has a little more leg room and the seat goes back a slight bit farther, but the seats, food and service are the same as business class. I wouldn't even waste my miles on an upgrade. Buy the ED ticket and upgrade to business, and forget Super First.
Eva is by far my favorite Airline, and I consistently get upgraded without spending my miles (I only buy discounted tickets, not full fares). In addition, if you are flying from the west coast to Southeast Asia, EVA has the shortest travel times, due to convenient stop-overs in Taipei.
