Korean Airlines: A five-star Airline that treats you to First Class Service.

I am currently in the middle of my big adventure to China, and I felt compelled to write about the airline that got me here in the first place. I booked my tickets from Chicago to Hong Kong on Delta Airlines, and the flight was handled by Korean Airlines. I have never flown Korean Airlines, and was kind of dreading the 14-hour long flight that went from Chicago to Seoul, South Korea. To my relief, the plane was a 747, very big and spacious. My tickets were for economy class, so I was not expecting to be treated so well. The plane was staffed with a wonderful and kindly team of (beautiful and young) stewardesses who would tirelessly and effortlessly, and cheerfully, attend to your every need..
What I liked about Korean Airlines.
Number one service with a smile! I have not flown internationally in a long time. I have just done domestic USA flights in the past decade or so, and I was always struck by the idea that the stewardesses should be beautiful and cheerful and at your service. In my experience on USA carriers, the stewardesses are, without exception, old, mean and ugly!!!! I thought the stewardess ideal that I had from when I was a youngster was just an illusion. So, it was to my great surprise and delight that the stewardesses on Korean Airlines were beautiful and friendly and very hard working. They were also very cheerful, fluent in English and treated economy passengers almost with the same care as first class passengers. There were two meals served on the 14-hour flight, the first meal was a choice between Korean food and Western food. I chose the Korean food, and it was delicious, as Korean food is one of my favorites. Kimchee, rice and bul go gi beef, it was a pleasure to enjoy.
Entertainment options.
Korean Airlines offers a wide variety of entertainment choices, from audio music with free headphones provided to free movies as well on the big screen. There were three new movies shown during the flight, Bourne Supremacy with Matt Damon, Sammis Superstars, a Korean baseball film akin to The Bad News Bears and Bull Durham, and King Arthur.
There was also an interesting video shown periodically for a kind of isometric exercise and stretching time from the seat that the mostly Korean passengers participated in.
There are other videos shown during the flight, including advertisements about world destinations visited by Korean Airlines, especially Korean destinations, as well as up to date flight information on a map, giving the present real time location of the plane, wind speed, altitude, and speed of the aircraft. All of these are given in both metric and in English units. Our route from Chicago did not go straight west, as I had thought, expecting to go over the US Rockies and then the Cascade mountains, and over the Pacific Ocean. Instead, we went north by northwest over Canada, and crossed over the Bering Straits, and hugged the coast of Russia, going over the Kamchatka Peninsula. Also, having a window seat I had the opportunity to see the ground at all times since it never got dark during this westward journey. I saw a lot of water, ice, snow, and mountains as well as the ocean. It was a beautiful view.
The takeoff and landing were superb, and riding on a 747 was wonderful. I made the connecting flight in Seoul on Korean Airlines, and flew to Hong Kong, arriving 3.5 hours later. The second flight was just as comfortable and nice as the first one, but I was tired of traveling by then.
However, I am looking forward to the return flight with Korean Airlines to Chicago, as I know they will take care of my every need. That is in two weeks from now.
