In March 1998 I had the pleasure to fly Korean Air from JFK airport in New York City to Bali, Indonesia. I chose Korean Air because there was a special price - only $995 round trip.
The flight was pretty good. I remember watching a James Bond 007 movie on the trip and sleeping sideways in an empty seat adjacent to me. There was a Korean Grandma Mammosan who wanted the empty seat to lie down too and she attempted to gain control of the seat by taking off her shoes so that the odor of feet drifted into my nose. Luckily, I had some of those nice wet naps handy my mom loves so much that I smelled that instead to the lady's kimchee feet.
My experience with Korean Air was very pleasurable. The crew was bilingual and friendly. The meal I think was Soba (noodles) and it was really tasty compared to other mundane airline food and salty peanuts I have eaten elsewhere.
The flight from New York to Bali went as follows: Leave JFK to Alaska. In Alaska, there is a one hour refueling time. From Alaska, its on to Seoul, Korea. The airport in Seoul was nice. There was duty free shopping that I did not take any advantage of. I remember going to the second floor of the airport and watching T.V. in a lounge. Some time was spent waiting for the flight that would take me to Dempasar Airport in Bali Indonesia.
Arriving in Dempasar Bali, the plane slowly approached the airport terminal and from my window I saw a pack of stray dogs chasing after the airplane.
My vacation was about to begin.
