| zazen1's Full Review: Malaysia Airlines |
In March this year I flew with Malaysian Airlines from Melbourne, Australia to Kuala Lumpur and changing planes, on to Yangon in Mynamar (Burma) , returning by the same route .In total I caught 4 different planes operated by Malaysian Airlines .
This is the second major trip I have made with this Airline and I took careful note of each plane and the service and comfort levels of the flights.
The first leg was on a 747-400. A plane built for stability and carrying capacity rather than comfort, particularly in economy. These planes have two triple seats against either side and a row of 4 seats in the middle, traveling with a partner I opted to sit in the middle tier, 1 and 2 in, from the aisle. This position allowed both of us to be able to get out without disturbing anyone else.
Entertainment
The entertainment portal located on the back of the seat in front allowed the viewing of current movies , several television stations , some video games and my favorite, the plane plotter which allows you to follow the path of the flight and know exactly where you are at any moment..
Food and comfort
The leg to Kuala Lumpur was a night flight and I found the seating very cramped and uncomfortable but I can’t blame the Airline for this to me it is just part of the nature of flying. We were given a light meal 2 or 3 hours after departure, I had ordered an Asian vegetarian menu and the curries they serve are very good.
Inflight Service
I am not a very demanding flyer and rarely request anything , but I watched and listened to the male and female attendants deal with some very demanding people seated near me, who seemed to be making unreasonable requests, they remained polite and smiling and tried to keep these particular customers happy.
Kuala Lumpur Airport
Most International Air Malaysia flights are routed through K.L Airport,, my first stop there was confusing , after a few visits I managed to understand how it operates , how to use the internal rail system ( which saves the traveler a lot of leg work ) and how to maximize a stop over there for ease and comfort. There is a lounge available for $18, which is great if you have a long wait for a plane , showers , Internet access , free drinks and food are supplied or you can just put your feet up for a few hours .In spite of the tropical heat outside the airport , inside it can be quite icy from the air conditioning, especially if you arrive early morning and a light coat may be necessary.
The smaller 737-400 planes are often used on shorter international flights and in my experience are subject to mechanical problems (on 2 occasions this plane has been delayed by mechanical problems) or maybe it was just bad luck on my part. To finish I would recommend this Airline to travelers , they provide a cheap , reasonably comfortable and reliable service particularly on flights through south east Asia.
