| toiletoctopus's Full Review: Air France |
In these reviews Air France has been way across the board, but I have flown them many times.(And everytime I've been very happy!) Since my usual trip is to Paris, I'll start off by complaining about one major problem and one little one about this airline. First of all, Charles De Gaulle Airport is the worst in the world. There is no getting around this, as getting off from the plane and into France is a hassle. The airport is outdated, built in a confusing manner with no maps, and there are few people to assist tired travellers. My other problem with Air France is their airplanes look dirty. They need to wash them more often.
However inside the planes the ride is excellent. There are three classes in every long distance Air France flight-First Class, Business, and Tempo.(Coach) I have flown coach everytime, and there is plenty of legroom for us tall folks. The seating arrangement is usually 4-6-4 on the big planes. The usual flight experience involves two excellent meals (Usually Meat, potatoes, etc) and plenty of wine. Flight attendants are always bringing what else...french bread! The airplanes have television screens on every set, which usually have a selection of five channels. Usually Air France has some recent movies, and you can watch your flight on GPS with speed and altitude displayed if you so desire.
Their aircraft are outstanding, and it is a very modern fleet. For long range flights, Air France employs one of their 12 A330's, 22 A340's, 24 747's, or one of their 25 Boeing 777's. They are starting to phase out the 747, as these are now more used for freight operations. If you are on a medium range flight, you will be flying on one of their 21 Boeing 737's, 6 Airbus A318's, 43 A319s, 67 A320's, or 13 A321's. Their average fleet airplane is under 10 years old, which is much better than their American counterparts. If you happen to go to France, then you might take one of their shorter range flights. They have three subsidiaries that handle these flights: Britair, City Jet, and Regional. These subsidiaries employ the following aircraft: Fokker 100's, BAE 146's, Embraer 120's, and Saab 200's. Air France's total of 363 aircraft truly make up an amazing fleet, and are maintained to the highest standards. Air France has received many awards for their dedication from many internationally recognized safety organizations.
Air France also has excellent scheduling, and they fly out of many airports throughout the world. In fact, they have 184 destinations in 85 countries. In the United States, they mostly fly out of LAX, Dulles, and JFK, but they do serve many other airports. They recently added some new destinations, and these include Canton, Teheran, Pointe-Noire, Malabo, Kuwait City, Doha, and Tashkent. If you are interested in Asian travel, Air France is having a boom of a year there. Their flights to Asia are all over 75%booked, and they are adding many new locations. They recently merged with KLM, where they are picking up new airports for service.
Right now they have many good flight deals out of the United States. From the West Coast, you can fly Air France to locations such as Amsterdam for $431. Paris is $290, Prague is $470, and Zurich, Switzerland is $450. From the East Coast Prague is $347, Rome $340, Amsterdam $290, and Madrid is $338. The best part, is if you order your tickets online from Air France's website.(AirFrance.com) They will give you miles by booking online, and if you fly business class online soon, you will get a free mini ipod. Not a bad deal, considering this airline has friendly service, many locations, and great prices.
