| azielinski's Full Review: Lufthansa |
Last month I went to Greece on vacation. I went on an escorted vacation that did not include my flights but when I booked the vacation, the woman I spoke to asked if I wanted her to look into flights for me. I said yes and she got back to me with flights on Lufthansa. After I checked around to make sure that I was getting the best price, I went ahead and bought the tickets.
Until I went to Greece, I had never flown with Lufthansa before. I knew that they had been around for ages but that was about it.
This was the first time I had gotten an e-ticket for international travel so when I got my ticket package I looked at it carefully. The first thing I noticed was that Lufthansa tells you not to call to reconfirm your flights. This isnt something I do as a rule but some airlines request it so I was a little surprised that Lufthansa said dont.
I got to the airport a little more than two hours before the flight left when I set off on my vacation. There were three or four people in line ahead of me and the line moved quickly. My flights were Boston-Frankfurt-Athens and Athens-Munich-Boston. The flight on the way back only required at one and a half hour check in and had a very long line but moved swiftly. Each time I checked in, my checked bags were checked through and I got the aisle seat I wanted the people I dealt with were also very pleasant.
Once on board my flights, I was seated in a comfortable well, for an airline seat. The seat had little wing things that you could bend so that if you went to sleep your head would flop around. (I really like those.) The flight from Boston to Frankfurt had those larger cabin screens only but the flight home had individual screens and you could choose from a variety of things to watch. If I am only going to get this one way I like it for the homeward flight because I do at least try to sleep on the flight to Europe (I dont usually do too well but it is worth a try.)
Announcements were made in German, English and French and on each flight the person making the announcement introduced the cabin crew and let the passengers know who spoke different languages so that you could get any help that you might need. Flight attendants were ready to help anyone who had questions about the forms needed to enter the US. The flights themselves were almost completely smooth.
The food wasnt great (it is airline food) but it was recognizable both visually and by taste. Beverage service was very generous with plenty of water and juice being served every 90 minutes or so.
I expected Lufthansa to be efficient and well run. They were in addition the people both on the ground were polite, fun to chat with and obviously took great pride in doing their jobs well.
While I dont know when I will travel to a destination covered by Lufthansa next I will definitely keep them in mind for future travel. They were a pleasure to deal with.
