The Bottom Line: Definitely fly with them! They have the best rates and the best mileage plan, not to mention the electronic services they have! It's a real kick!

| clarkch's Full Review: Alaska Airlines |
The first step to enjoying your Alaska Airlines trip is to sign up for the mileage plan. Don't call over the phone, Alaska gives all sorts of bonus miles just for doing things online. And while your at it, book your trip on their website and you're all set to go. I really enjoyed my time with Alaska Airlines this summer, it was a painless and enjoyable experience without the usual hassles that you would expect at the airport.
It began with using web check in. I was VERY impressed. I just went to their website before I left for the airport and I was able to print a boarding pass right from my own printer...you know what that means? Park your car and straight to the gate and the pass is given to the gate attendant on your way into the plane, what convenience! Now you have time to get that cup of coffee or read the paper without endangering your punctuality. So I got on the plane and it was a very calm and easy flight, and me being in the back of coach, I was surprised to get 3 drink services and actually have the snack I wanted available. So anyway I dismissed my normal life for a week and relaxed in Las Vegas.
A couple of days before I left I decided to call and see if I could upgrade to first class...it was depressing enough to go home, so why not at least enjoy the flight, right? So they gave me the exact seat I wanted, and for only $40 I was instantly moved from seat 25F to 1A! When I got to the airport, I decided to check in with their instant travel machine...a touch screen computer you use to check in and make seat changes before your flight. So I entered my reservation number and right away I was prompted to insert my credit card to pay for the upgrade. Then it asked the usual questions and I was sent away with a boarding pass. The whole process was less than one minute, and I was all ready to go.
First class on Alaska is sort of sub-par when you consider what some other airlines offer, but you must also consider how hard it is to get those seats without paying full-fare. It was 100% better than coach in itself. I got a plush leather recliner in a bulkhead row so I had all the room I needed and I got as much of whatever I wanted to drink through the whole flight. Another bonus is the famous people you might sit next to. I sat next to Cliff Robinson...for those of you who don't know him, he is a former Blazers player. Anyway as you can tell it was an exciting experience.
So in the aftermath I walked away with so many bonus miles for flying first and using their online/electronic services that I have enough miles to ride in first class for nothing next time. I can't wait.
Chris.
