From Worst to First.....Again!

Pros: Awesome Airbus planes, good fares, always ontime!
Cons: Getting over a bad reputation, not alot of east coast routes.
The Bottom Line: Give them another chance, they're doing great now!

After seeing about 200 reviews, I had to take a look at the America West section. Of course I noticed that most of them were negative....and at least a year old. There were very few new additions...so here's one! Being a frequent flyer on America West over the past 2 years, I have seen lots of different things with them. When I first started flying with them in July of 2000 they were in the midst of a huge mess with mechanical difficulties and labor issues. Cancelled and delayed flights nonstop....agents that were so new and under trained they had no idea of what to do next. Most of them were very unfriendly, but who could blame them when they had to deal with irrate customers all day long ? Enough of the bad, if your a frequent traveller with them you already know the bad stories, now it's time for some good stories. America West today is nothing like it was 2 summers ago. After getting rid of their old CEO and promoting their new one, Doug Parker, the airline has been doing exceptionally well. I can not believe the turn around I have seen at America West. Since about August of 2001 I have flown on them many, many times and have NEVER had a flight cancelled or had any major delay. Of course there are the minor things like being delayed 5-10 minutes but nothing like the 1-2 hours they used to have. They have hired on better people, done substantial changes with training and now have a much better ground staff than before. Because of the better reputation, the agents are much more friendly and helpful, and are now proud to be working for America West. In fact as alot of you may already know, America West held the #1 spot for ontime performance for the 1st quarter 2002 and missed #1 but just fractional points for the next month. Their lost baggage, cancelled flight, and customer service stats have all gone up too...an incredible turn around. They have also updated their appearance as well, all of their planes have been painted in the new colors and most of the aircraft interiors have now been updated with the new interior fabrics. If you ever get a chance to fly on one of their 70+ Airbus planes, you're in for a treat. These planes are incredible. They feature roomier seats, brighter interior, and awesome First Class seats. They have really hit the mark on purchasing these great state of the art aircraft. As you might have guessed, I really have a soft spot for America West and I like to see a company turn around like they have. I must say they have always been good to me and even with their problems, took care of the situation as best as they could. I hope all of you out there who had bad experiences with America West, really give them another chance. You'll be happy with what you see. One thing to remember...no airline is perfect and ALL airlines have delays, even the best ones, trust me I've experienced the WORST on the BEST!! Be patient and don't pass judgement on an airline if you experience something bad. We travelers, especially in the US, are very impatient and demanding, I've seen too many times people getting really upset over a 10 minute delay...lets get real! If your flying on America West now, chances are that delayed or cancelled flight you might see is an exception to the rule. They've done an incredible job and I really have great respect for them. It's another great American "come from behind success" story so give 'em another chance guys! Hey if Continental can do it....so can America West. Good luck to you all!
