As a person with a disability, I have received many rude comments when I try to travel with my family, which includes young children. Many people tell us to just stay home. However, we have chosen to allow our children to have a variety of experiences, including air travel.
When flying on America West Airlines, we have received wonderful service from most of the employees. The gate agents have been friendly to us and our children. They have maintained eye contact when speaking with me, instead of focusing on my disability. They have done their best to accommodate our family, and have been quite kind about pre-boarding us on flights.
The flight attendants have been the best! They assist us in getting settled and have always been friendly to the children. They offer them play wings and make sure we all have enough beverages. They offer bottled water for making formula for an infant, and make sure everyone has a snack. They call ahead to our destination to have a wheelchair waiting for me when we deplane. They are attentive to us throughout the flight.
On occasion, we have encountered an employee who less than helpful, but anyone can have a bad day, and overall we have had wonderful service when we have flown on America West Airlines.
