| joydude's Full Review: America West |
Phoenix is lucky to have such a customer-oriented airline as America West. I flew them extensively a few years back, and was very impressed. I flew on a 747 from Phoenix to Hawaii and Japan, and the service was just fantastic. Clean planes, decent food and laid back attendants. Although they weren't on the 747, this airline usually also offers PTVs at all of their seats, which are credit-card activated. You can play computer games, and find out connecting flight/gate information. It's very useful. On a flight to the East Coast, we were offered DVD movies in First Class, and man was the service great. Probably the best food I've ever had on an airplane. First Class is a bargain, and you may need it if you're "large," as the coach seats are tiny like other airlines. Also, some of the planes, like 737-100s, have got to be at least 30 years old. However, I imagine this is also true at competing low-fare airlines, such as PSA.
America West was almost always on-time, and I've never had any problems with baggage or ticketing. Every employee I've met has been courteous and professional, and for a $25 fee, America West's Phoenix Club at PHX is a great way to step-out of the bustle at the terminal. America West offers competitive fares, so I would go ahead and use them.
