| grandgram's Full Review: American Airlines |
I had three trips I needed to take this summer and would be flying to my destinations, so I took a tour of the Internet. I found out that there are few planes leaving Des Moines so wanted to get the best price for my flights. I found that there are several Internet services available where you can check on flights. My first trip was to Dallas/Fort Worth in May for my Granddaughters graduation
I wanted non-stop flight so checking on the web travel service I typed in the times I wanted to leave and departure time home for my trip. This web service brought up all flights leaving Des Moines and I found American Airlines had a non-stop flight at the times I wanted. This seemed so easy, so I tried some different Web Travel services to see where I could get the best price for my trip. I even tried American Airlines direct and found I could get the best price on Travelocity.com. So I booked my electronic ticket with them. They suggested to printout all the information I would need when I checked in on my flight. All you have to do is give your Credit Card number and your ticket is issued, you even get to pick your seat number on the plane. The price for my round trip ticket was $290.00.
The American Eagle planes are a service to all business centers across the U.S., state capitals, Exotic Island or many points of interest. You can check out on Americanairlines.com and click on American Eagle icon at the bottom of page and you will find maps and 130 cities they cover. These American Eagle planes cover a large number of eastern U.S. cities with frequent daily round trip services. These planes are state-of-the art Regional Jets they offer a smooth quite ride with one by two seating arrangements. You will find rich leather seats with plenty of room in the over-head luggage space. Your baggage will be checked through to your final destination, including covered boarding ramps. The American Eagle planes have many of the same amenities as the American Airline jetliners, such as reclining seats, air vents, reading lights, and lavatory and coat closets. They have highly trained flight attendants for the customer service and safety.
The day I left for this flight, I wanted to be early as it is suggested. The Des Moines Airport has a parking garage with easy access to elevators and close to the ticket counters for American airlines. The ticket agent helped me with my first electronic check in. I needed to put in my credit card and my ticket information came up. I needed to show my ID as I checked in my suitcase and golf clubs. I was given a boarding pass with the seat number I had requested. This all went so smoothly that I had plenty of time to get a bite to eat before going to the American Gate. I had to show my ID again when checking in at the gates but since I did not want to have carry-on luggage they just checked my purse. I was wearing sandals so I did not have to take off my shoes.
I now had plenty of time to go to my Gate and settle in to read my book. Soon my flight was announced and I had to show my ID again with my boarding pass and I was soon seated by a window. I watched as the luggage was being loaded to make sure my things were put on. The plane was the American Eagle a smaller jet plane leaving Des Moines for DFW but it was roomy with plenty of leg room. I did not have to hassle with getting luggage in the overhead bins, as this usually causes some confusion. The plane seat was comfortable and I usually keep my seat belt on at all times and settled in to read my book. Take off was smooth and we were airborne. It was not long until the snacks showed up which was a bag of pretzels and cold drink. My trip was only a little less than two hours and I found the attendants cordial and helpful. My son was waiting for me at the baggage pick up and happy to see the suitcase and golf carry-on bag came through in fine shape.
All in all this flight with American Eagle was a pleasant experience and am now planning for another trip to DFW on July 18 to July 20 for my granddaughters wedding. I again went to the Web to check out prices for this trip, I found Travelocity had the best price for the times I wanted to leave. This price was quoted as $271.00; I think the difference is because I booked this flight well enough in advance to get the best price. I was given a print-out of this ticket with all the information I will need when I check in their electronic check-in. My flight number is #3727 on American Eagle and is a non-stop flight. I made a reservation for my daughter who will be flying with me on this trip. We will be leaving at 10:30 a.m. so will be getting in DFW at 12.30 p.m. I have been assigned Seat #3A both going down and coming back. Since I booked my daughters flight at a later date the cost of her ticket was $366.00, so it pays to book early and check around the different web site travel services. She just decided that she could get away for this trip, when you are going to summer school your time is valuable. Both tickets will be electronic tickets and check in will be a breeze.
We will have the same type of jet plane, small but adequate for the number of people who will be going to DFW and points beyond. I have been very satisfied with the American Airline service and the convenience of catching the plane in Des Moines. I am an hour and half away from Des Moines but the airport is small enough, so there is no hassle with parking and traffic.
I will again use American Airlines for future travel and of course use the web travel service in checking out the best prices for flights. GOOD ADVICE ON TRAVELING, TAKE TWICE THE CASH AND HALF THE CLOTHES!!
