This is my first trip on American Airlines in awhile and I am quite impressed by their service. I will just summarize the main points
Check-In:
Checkin was quite a mess at Jacksonville. Now all TWA passengers checkin with American, but the American counter only has like 5 agent positions. Well there is a TWA flight to St. Louis that leaves at 6:43AM, and American to DFW at 6:48AM and an American Eagle to Miami alittle later. It was a mess and I waited to checkin for about 45 minutes.
On the return out of Duluth it was an American Eagle jungle jet to Chicago. There was no one waiting to check in or even checking in so it was as simple as walking up to the counter.
Security:
Airport security is quite improved. They are more careful about looking at your bags and yourself, I felt quite secure.
Airline security is much improved also. American was randomly checking people and searching their carryons. They also required positive id when you gave your boarding pass. It made me feel comfortable.
Comfort:
I was very very impressed with the legroom on AA. I am about 5'10" and while sitting I still had about 6" of kneeroom left to play with.
The seats were also very nice. They were very clean and had these nice adjustable leather headrests. The lumbar support could be improved though. With that extra legroom I was trying to slouch so I could sleep, but my back was protesting the entire time.
Onboard Service:
All they had were snacks and drinks. All my flights were under 3 hrs so I guess I can understand. Its just I am used to getting alittle something on 2 or 2 1/2 hours flights.
Customer Service:
I give AA a A+ in this category. Every AA employee I encountered were very friendly. They all treated me with respect and a few even called me by name.
Airports:
I connected through Dallas Fort Worth and Chicago Ohare both ways. Dallas is a fairly decent airport but can be hard to navigate for unseasoned travellers. Chicago was a very clean and very modern airport (well the AA terminals anyways).
Cons:
The boarding system isnt done by row anymore but by group. They have groups 1-5. Anyways on all my flights when they called groups 1-3 a max of about 20 people walked up. Then when group 4 is called its like a stampede. Alittle inefficient.
Final:
I am very impressed with American Airlines. I used to fly Continental and Northwest exclusively but have since switched. Continental and Northwest have great service also but the onboard comfort just cannot be beat. Here I come AA.
