I have to join in with the others who have said Continental's customer service leaves a lot to be desired.
Last July we flew Continental out of Dublin to Chicago via Newark. Because of a 2 and one half-hour delay in Dublin we missed our connecting flight in Newark. We were put on the next flight to Chicago, which was cancelled. When we were put onto a third flight four hours later. We then had to disembark because of mechanical problems. Two hours later we were put on another place only to be told we'd be on the tarmac and possible held in a flight pattern for another four hours.
None of this has to do with customer service; but during this nightmare whenever we asked for information we were given none, and in trying to express our frustration and exhaustion after 16 hours of travel, two different flight attendants on separate occasions had the nerve to retort, "Well, I've been up all night too!" My husband was quick to point out that they were getting paid for it while we paid a lot of money to be treated rudely.
We were also travelling with a sick three-year-old child. When I complained to someone that no one had offered us any refreshments or meal vouchers during the entire eight-hour delay, a flight attendant told me I could have fed him myself but I "chose" to complain.
At that point we disembarked and demanded, and received, a hotel room. After complaining to their 1-800 number we were offered a $600 travel voucher for the three of us, which we have yet to receive after two letters and a phone call.
One month later we flew them again. Again we experienced delays, and this time heard of one horror story after another from irate travellers.
This time they did not have my vegetarian meal, which is not an unusual thing, and doesn't usually bother me. But most airlines in my experience at least apologize and try to compensate with whatever they can put together. Not only did flight staff on Continental insist they didn't have so much as a spare roll or cracker, but I overhead the crew making jokes about abstinence being part of the "vegetarian thing". We reported this on the complaint line as well, and we were assured an apology was forthcoming.
The only thing we've received thus far is a letter thanking us for our comments.
