Pros: Lots of miles for doing basic things that I would do anyway!
Cons: When cashing in the miles you have to talk to a real person!
The Bottom Line: This is a great program for three very basic reasons...miles, it is easy to use, and more miles!

| SCRedHead's Full Review: Alaska Airlines Mileage Plan |
I guess you could say that I am biased, I love Alaska Airlines (in fact I wrote another review about them)...but what makes this airline even better is their Mileage Program. They give out miles for doing the little things that save tons of time for them. With my most recent ticket purchase I received 1000 bonus miles just for purchasing online. When you could still to electronic check in you received 500 miles per check in. Personally this adds up to a lot more than the number of miles I earn for my round trip. Not to mention that they do incentive programs for people who have the mileage program during off seasons, which really makes it a great deal.
Now, you're probably asking yourself, "Self, why should I sign up for this particular mileage program? Or even fly this particular airline in general?" To answer the second question you're going to have to read my review on why this is a great airline. But the first question is simple enough...
1. The bonus miles add up incredibly quickly. When they add up quickly you become closer to that free trip (at about 25,000 miles, which really isn't that much), when you earn a free trip you are happier because you hard earn vacation costs that much less.
2. When you do earn that free trip you don't have to fly standby!!!!! There are restrictions for cashing in your miles, and you do have to talk to a real person to schedule this flight, but fear not, they are friendly and it is actually much less painful than you would think. Whenever I have used my miles towards a free trip I have never had a problem getting the flights that I wanted. Because, honestly, what is the point of having earned a free trip if it isn't when you want to take it?
3. Alaska's partners, Horizon and American Airlines (as well as others) provide great service. American was great for my cross country trip (mostly because we flew MD-80's the entire trip).
So there you have it...if you haven't signed up for this Mileage Plan get out there and do it. If you haven't signed up because you don't fly...What the heck is wrong with you? The world is a big a beautiful place, get out there and explore!
