| vifoot1's Full Review: Alaska Airlines Mileage Plan |
I love the Alaska Mileage Plan! I used to be a member of Southwest Airlines Rapid Rewards when I lived in Florida. I hated how your flight credits expired in 1 year. That is ridiculous. When I moved to Seattle, I became a member of Alaska's plan. I am also a member of United's plan, but I have to say Alaska's is far better.
I have become nearly obsessive-compulsive about earning my miles. I choose restaurants where I will earn 10 miles per dollar spent. I charge everything to my platinum visa and pay it off in full every month. When I go out with friends or a group from work, I pick up the tab and they pay me cash for their portion (keeps the wait staff happy too). I shop at the online mall. I park at Masterpark at the airport, rent cars from the partners, buy gas at Tesoro, shop at Safeway, and sign up all of Alaska's online bonuses that I am eligible for (web check-in, etc). My friends laugh at me, but I tell them they won't be laughing when I am on my cheap vacations around the world! I have earned 60,000 miles in less than a year doing this.
The one time I tried to redeem miles to go from Seattle to Orlando on a partner airline, the days I wanted to fly were not available. It wasn't during a holiday or anything and it was well in advance, so I was disappointed by that.
