| hawndude's Full Review: Hawaiian Airlines HawaiianMiles |
The HawaiianMiles Frequent Flyer program is one of the world's best in every sense. This program has always been a step ahead of their major Interisland competitor, the AlohaPass program. They have made every major innovation in the Hawaiian Islands, such as, linking miles from three accounts to pool for awards, earing miles by using cargo services, earning bonus miles by booking via their website and so on.
This program far surpasses even a few of the major airline programs with their partnership with Milesmall.com, earning opportunities by purchasing gasoline, taking a bike tour down Haleakala, purchasing flowers at local Hawaii florists, purchasing Poi products and so much more.
The HawaiianMiles program is far superior to the AlohaPass program, in that, you do not have to have an affinity credit card to earn miles at participating partners. The Hawaiian Mastercard issued by Wells Fargo Bank is competitive with any and all other affinity cards issued by major banks for airline frequent flyer programs, especially the Aloha Airlines Air Awards card issued by First Hawaiian Bank. You earn 1 mile per purchased dollar on your credit card, whereas, the Aloha card credits you with 1 flight credit if you make $250 in purchases. We know which card is better to earn miles, The HawaiianMiles Mastercard, of course.
The elite status' (Pualani Platinum and Pualani Gold) are easy to earn if you travel to Hawaii or within the State of Hawaii often. The low flight segment and mileage thresholds are great to continually earn their elite status year after year.
The only setback for this program is the limited ability to earn flight miles on another airline other than itself and Northwest Airlines (except routes flown by Hawaiian).
Other than that, this program has great earning and award opportunities. So, if you travel to or within Hawaii, this is the program of choice.
