Jet Blue comes through during the Blackout of 2003

My brother and sister-in-law visited me recently from out of the States.
They have now returned to their home, and had no time to post, so I am reporting this on their behalf.
On the day before the blackout, they flew from JFK to Burlington, Vermont. They were very satisfied with the flight.
On the day of the blackout, they were scheduled to return from Burlington to JFK. While they were at the airport, the lights suddenly flickered. They soon heard an announcement explaining that the flickering was due to a major blackout, and that no planes could take off which were headed to any affected areas. The Burlington airport had electricity, and planes flying to non-affected areas were allowed to leave.
For the next five hours, the Jet Blue staff bent over backwards to calm the passengers and make them comfortable. In addition to giving out all the snacks they could find, they had pizza delivered for all the passengers, gave out free drinks all afternoon, and passed out phone cards so that passengers could call home to say that their flight was delayed. The pilot himself wheeled around one of the snack carts. Meanwhile, they kept doing everything in their power to get as many planes going as possible, before the pilots' flying day legally had to end (about 9:30). My brother's plane finally got underway right before the deadline; when he arrived at my house just before midnight, he could not stop raving about how Jet Blue had gone above-and-beyond in the way the passengers were treated.
I had made the reservations on their behalf. Today I received an email apologizing for the flight delay (which was certainly not Jet Blue's fault), and giving us two vouchers for $25 each, usable on future flights, good for up to a year.
Needless to say, we are very impressed and pleased.
