| jsher's Full Review: JetBlue Airways |
It isn't difficult to find a budget airline. But many of them are worth what you pay. JetBlue is a welcomed exception.
PRICES:
Prices, of course, are stellar. You can fly from NY to Phoenix for $99 each way and regional flights can dip down to $39. It's also quite easy to check flight availability and prices - go to www.jetblue.com.
SPECIAL PROMOTION:
Through Nov. 10 they are having a promotion: Buy 2 tickets and get 2 tickets for free on the same trip or double that - buy 4 and get 4.
EASY BOOKING:
It's easy to book online. Simply select departure and return dates and you will be shown all flights each day, with prices that often vary according to the time of day. If you have flexibility on dates and want the lowest price, you can quickly check all the days in a given week to see if one date and time has a lower fare. And as a bonus it costs less to buy online than by phone.
PICK YOUR SEAT:
While online you can select your seat(s) using a graphical image of the plane which shows exactly where seats are located and which ones are unoccupied.
TIP: GET A ROOMIER SEAT
JetBlue often appears to leave empty until check-in the seats in the four emergency rows near the middle, all of which have double the leg room of a standard row, enough for Shaquille to stretch. Ask when you check in.
AMENITIES:
Enjoy your own tv screen in the back of the seat in front of you along with a selection of about 30 stations. For a few hours, anyway, my wife and I didn't have to fight for the remote control.
The snack selection is extensive, the beverages come in full cans and seconds are eminently possible. For an airline that is mostly competing along regional routes, JetBlue blows away the competition.
FRIENDLY SERVICE:
In four flights I have yet to meet an airline employee who wasn't friendly and helpful.
OTHER THINGS TO NOTE:
Some reviewers have listed as a negative the fact JetBlue doesn't fly to many cities and has a more limited schedule in the cities it does fly to. That is true but I see that as a positive, since it shows that as an airline it is growing cautiously and intelligently, a route that will enable it to maintain the profitability it needs to continue its rare combination of low-price and quality.
If you live in CANADA, more specifically in southern Ontario, fly JetBlue from Buffalo or Boston and you'll save a bundle over what it would cost from Toronto, in part because of the exorbitant taxes and fees in the latter.
Also, I am by nature and profession a critical person so the fact that I don't have a single negative thing to say about JetBlue is remarkable. Fly them if you get the chance.
