| lauriekraft's Full Review: JetBlue Airways |
I fly about 30 round trips per year, mostly on two airlines. Once, while on a vacation trip (my own money) I decided to fly from home to Fla. on Jet Blue. I saved about $15 on the air fare (compared to the same 21 day adv. purchase on other airlines).
As expected, Jet Blue's plane was tight. They really pack the people on. At least sardines are dead before they are packed, so they never feel what we felt.
On the way back from Florida to the hub at JFK, we were late leaving due to weather in the North East. Now that is a fact of life in travel. While I average over 75 percent of flights arriving at the final destination "on time" (within 15 minutes is the official definition) there are time, particularly during the winter, that many flights are delayed. So I checked with the agent in Florida about the possibility of missing my connection at JFK. He explained that there was a good chance that I would miss it, depending upon how late the connecting flight was. There was a late night flight on another airline from JFK to home, but I would have to wait for space on the next Jet Blue flight. The only later Jet Blue flight from JFK was fully booked, so if there was a misconnect very few, if any, of the misconnected passengers would get on it. The rest would spend the night.
So I flew to from Fla. to JFK worried that I might have to buy a full fare one way ticket from JFK to home (that would have cost more than a 21 day adv. purchase ticket on any airline) or spend the night. All this worry while squeezed in an overcrowded airplane with TVs (one reason I tried Jet Blue) that did not work.
The airline gods were with me. My connecting flight was delayed, though less than the flight I was on. I had just enough time to run from my flight to the connection and get on just as they were closing the door. One minute later and I wouldn't have made it. (the agent closing the door remarked that I was lucky) No time for a much needed bathroom break. I had planned on eating at JFK (nothing on the plane), but I was just glad to have made the connection. One more minute and I would have had to buy a ticket at full fare for a flight home on another airline.
That's the last time on Jet Blue. It would be well worth a few more dollars to fly on a real airline.
