| joopabl's Full Review: JetBlue Airways |
I have had the opportunity to fly them twice out of JFK. My first flight was to Oakland and recently I flew to their newest destination - San Juan.
Overall - the package you get is everything they advertise. The planes are indeed sparkling new and thus clean so far. There are leather seats but they are not larger than any other airline. The airline flies exclusively Airbus A320 which have a 3 - 3 configuration.
There is no main food service but you know that up front- so pack your own - especially for coast to coast flights. They do provide drinks on a constant basis and graciously if you request more. They have a lot of free snacks which include everything from chocolate chip cookies to the tongue in cheek "Blue" potato chips.
The flights I was on left on time. They make timeliness a cooperative project with passengers. When getting closer to landing they ask everyone to help clean up so turn around time on the ground is shorter, and flights stay inexpensive. No one seems to mind - since the passengers all want to save money without totally becoming uncivilized.
The planes were very full - which if you go to their web site or on to Travelocity - they are usually sold out - thus confirming their popularity. The staff at check in is helpful and gracious and the flight attendants can be very whimsical and funny - as is their website. How many airline websites offer inscribed airline luggage with "hot pants not included"?
Luggage has not been lost thus far - but I can tell you it takes a while to get your luggage at Oakland, San Juan, and JFK. Probably one improvement they could make.
Satellite TV features FREE standard basic cable minus fun stuff like MTV, HBO, or any of the major networks. They carry Headline News, Weather Channel, sports and several Discovery Channels among others - thus trying to appeal to the most people but trying not to offend anyone (unless you dont like seeing lions ripping the flesh off of zebras). Be aware that in the small print it tells you their is no TV service to Puerto Rico - but they do try to make it work for the hour they fly near the US mainland coast. There is only ONE class of service for the whole plane - COACH.
Flights prices tend to be on par or cheaper at times than their rivals. If you book less popular times such as red eyes or early morning flights - prices get more inexpensive. When JetBlue first started out - they were always cheaper. American and Delta Express have head to head competition with them often dropping prices to drive Jet Blue out of business. But JetBlue's planes are always nearly full even when their rivals are cheaper. So if it costs you the same or a little more to fly JetBlue than their major airline competitors, why fly a 20 year old jet with old seats and no entertainment and food service? JetBlue is the better choice.
