| brainsurgguy's Full Review: JetBlue Airways |
For all you fans of discount airlines, JetBlue delivers as one of the better of the latest generation of cheapee carriers. Though they have ambitious plans to serve over 30 cities by the end of the year, to date they serve only 4. Those being New York, Buffalo, Ft. Lauderdale & Tampa.
JetBlue hits home on 2 issues. The first is price. For an average price of $119 each way you can fly up and down the coast. Second is that Jetblue boasts a fleet of new planes. They are on the small side seating about 160. This can result in full flights which have been my experiences. One other aspect to note is that you can buy each leg individually or round trip.
The ticket counter and gate attendants are friendly but seem a bit overwhelmed. I attribute this to the growing pains of a new airline. The same holds true in the plane. Most everyone is sincere in their pleasantness.
All flights have one class and one section. It reminded me of the old days at People Express airlines. The atmosphere at the beginning and end of the flight can resemble a meat market, but the masses do get buckled up in time to take off and deplane.
A variety of snacks & beverages are free on short flights; full meals on longer ones. Food quality & selection is good.
JetBlue has delivered on their promise of in flight TV. My latest flight (4/01) to Buffalo was greatly enhanced by the ability to watch playoff basketball & hockey. NO CHARGE!!!
Overall the fare balances exceptionally with the minor inconveniences making JetBlue a viable option for air travel to the cities it serves.
Addendum: I recently flew JetBlue round trip to Oakland, Ca. (Sept. 2000), Buffalo (April 2001)
The TV additions were excellent as well as the entire flight. JetBlue continues to impress!!! In fact, JetBlue is now my airline OF CHOICE for domestic travel
Well, it's now about 6 years since I wrote the first ever epinion on JetBlue. They have grown soooo much over this time, both for good & bad. There are now many, many destinations in the US. Mostly on the East & West Coast. Fares are still competitive.
There is, though, a growing sense of loss of their original karma and my feeling is that of them becoming more & more like the BIG BOYS of US air travel. Don;t get me wrong, I still use them regularly, but I miss the "old days" of cabbing to JFK and wisking thru check in & security. It is now a crowded and time consuming process. A bit of being victim of their own success.
They now offer movies during flight (Fee)
Overall, JetBlue is still one of the best domestic airlines; I wish they still the best kept secret....
