Midway takes the highway

Cons: Poor business/communications standards
The Bottom Line: This week Midway Airlines left customers in Western, New York high and dry when they ceased service with a weeks notice. This is no way to run a business.

My husband and I recently purchased three roundtrip airline tickets from Rochester (NY) International Airport to Norfolk (VA) International Airport. We choose to buy tickets with Midway Airlines, over Continental or another larger airline, because the cost was less and their schedule was better. All together we charged $600 on our American Express card. Thank goodness it wasn't cash.
I say this because we never got to fly Midway Airlines! This week Midway abruptly halted all service from Rochester International Airport and nearby Buffalo International Airport. When we purchased our tickets from them two weeks ago they gave us absolutely no indication that they would be pulling out of Western, New York. I find it hard to believe that a week before they closed their operations in Rochester and Buffalo they did not know that this action was coming. Therefore, I am thoroughly disgusted they sold us the tickets in the first place.
We are in the process of trying to get our money refunded. If we are unsuccesful with the airline we should not have a problem with American Express - since the services we paid for were never rendered. However, we now have to find new flights which will cost more than Midway and take longer to get to our destination. We are grateful our trip is not until September and we have time to sort out these problems now, but Midway Airlines left many customers in Buffalo and Rochester high and dry this week. If you are thinking about flying Midway, be sure to ask the ticket agent if they will still be servicing your airport next week.
