Pros:Seats, Cookies
Cons:Milwaukee, cancellations, lack of planes, poor service
The Bottom Line: Too small to rely on.
I have had lots of problems on Midwest, but 2 recent trips on Midwest have soured me for good - late June 06 KC to Minneapolis (through Milwaukee of course). KC to MKE fine, MKE to MSP leg cancelled when we got there. Unwilling to put us on the next flight, not willing to rebook us on another airline, unwilling to pay for a rental car or hotel room for us (7 hours to next flight, my wife was running a marathon in Duluth MN the next day). Rude counter people, MKE is a horrible airport to wait even 1 hour in. Return trip was also marred by 1 hr+ delays for 'maintenance'. Complete disaster.
I wrote a letter to the CEO and got a "Sorry, but that's how things go" response. Not even a few miles.
Second trip 1st weekend of August. KC to Madison WI (yes, through MKE) for a wedding. KC to MKE leg again cancelled for 'maintenance issues'. Not willing to put us on next 2 flights due to 'oversold' status. Next flight would have made us late for the wedding. Raised enough hell to make them put us on American through O'Hare, although I had to go over and beg American to put us on. Flight back today was 45 minutes late waiting for connecting passengers late from another Midwest flight.
My bottom line - I fly a lot, 4-6X per month for business and pleasure. Midwest is a great airline when things go well, but things fall apart when problems occur. They don't have the planes to make up for maintenance problems and Milwaukee seems to be problematic as a hub for them. Other airlines aren't any better when things are going well, but I don't see the problems impacting their entire operations and causing cancellations like they do at Midwest. I hate it, because I live in KC and Midwest has really stepped up its presence here, but I can't afford to have flights cancelled with no warning and no good alternatives because they are so small compared with American, etc.
So, Midwest - it was nice to know ya, but I'm not flying you anymore.
