Pros:low fares, good service, ticketless travel
Cons:locations vary, travelers to and from remote areas don't have many choices
At a major advantage to most and like other airlines, United Airlines provides discounted tickets via email on Tues. and Wed. to those willing to leave the following weekend and return Monday or Tuesday. Like most airlines United offers a thorough listing via email once you sign up of flights domestic and international (you choose one or both). Savings are great, almost to the point of being incredible. While on travel to Seattle on a project, a friend of mine and I got seats to New York for $300 round trip. Now how can you explain that? Luck? Fate? E-FARES! Rates like that are common and international flights are even more unbelievable. Sure Southwest offers $99 trips to the east coast, but hey that's the cattle herding Southwest we all know about. Signing up via their site at www.ual.com is also pretty easy and no, financial or credit card info is not required to be placed on their email list. All flights also count toward their excellent Mileage Plus program.
Travelling ticketless is also convenient. As long as you have ID, all you need to remember is your name. I suggest herbal supplements in case you have a problem with that. Since seating is assigned at check in and the boarding is done by zone, its really a better alternative to boarding by number....you don't have to be trained in the martial arts or have played defensive line to get a good seat.
United Airlines has always been a pleasant experience for me traveling by their shuttle service or regular lines. Their customer service has also been courteous anytime I had problems or questions with my frequent flyer program. The only con to their in flight service is that they don't serve peanuts on select flights. Better bring your own Planter's. Salted cashews do taste better anyways.
Overall, utilizing programs like E-fares from United is perfect for those that want to travel to experience new places just for the weekend for students, singles, couples, families, or friends. I don't recommend waiting on E-Fares to have something to your destination if you are planning a trip, but if you are the get up and go type, its a big benefit. One key set back to these programs is that it really helps if you are in a city which is a airline hub, simply because you usually have more choices. Another reason, SF is the best city to stay (just an epinion).
