I hate to fly, it scares me, but I couldn't resist the opportunity to visit Las Vegas again, so I started shopping for airfare. I spent a couple weeks scouring the internet for the lowest rates I could find.
Take offs and landings are the worst for me, so I wanted a non stop flight, even though that meant a longer time in the air. Most big commercial airlines couldn't accomodate that request and if they could, most flights were red eyes or way too early in the morning for me. I spoke with my friend about the dilemma I was having, and she suggested trying Spirit Air. She'd flown Spirit twice from Detroit to Orlando and said she found great rates, and was happy with her flights and service.
So, home I went to continue my internet search. I logged on to www.spiritair.com and was surprised to find the lowest price that I had seen in my quest for a low fare. Not only were the prices right, but the times of the flights were great too....and I got a non stop flight! So I proceeded to book my itinerary, used my credit card to pay and promptly received an email from Spirit confirming my reservations. I did notice that Spirit only has limited destinations, so that would be a con for some travelers, but as long as Vegas was included, I was happy. LOL
In my confirmation email I was notified that I could choose my seats at that time, so I went ahead and did that on Spirit's easy to navigate website. While I was reserving my seats for both my outbound and inbound trips, I learned that I could also print my boarding passes from my own computer within 45 days of my departure date.
Wow! I can't believe how easy this all was. I had read here at Epinions, some of the good and bad reviews of Spirit Air, and actually had some reservations about how "great" this trip was really going to turn out, but after printing my boarding passes and returning recently from my first experience with Spirit, I was pleasantly surprised at how stress free my flights and check in were.
Printed boarding passes in hand, my travel mates and I didn't stop at the ticket counter/baggage check in since all we had were carry ons. We were greeted with smiles upon check in and as we boarded the aircraft. The flight attendants were very attentive to other passengers' needs and served refreshments and snacks in a efficient, friendly manner. Both flights were smooth sailing, and the flight crew was informative and correct with their updates on our flight status. Both flights were on time, and our return flight was actually early arriving.
Spirit offers two beverages per flight. You have your choice of many soft drinks, juices or water. Alcohol is available for $4 each. They also give you a small package of pretzels or comparable snack. Also, for $4, you can get a snack "pack" which I did on both flights. The snack pack contains a small package of goldfish or simular cracker type snack, some table water crackers, peanut butter and jelly, a small Rice Krispie treat, a Lifesaver's Cream Saver, meat sticks, cheese, etc. Well worth it for the weary traveler. LOL
I flew both flights on MD 80 aircraft which is what the Spirit website states their whole fleet consists of. The first plane seemed old, but it wasn't too bad. It was clean and all, but the decor wasn't the best. The second plane was the same set up, with 2 on one side, 3 on the other seating, but newer and seemingly bigger seats with a brighter color scheme than the drab first plane.
All in all my experience with Spirit Air so far has been wonderful and I highly suggest anyone looking for low fares and great service try Spirit. Their website is www.spiritair.com and it's very easy to navigate and informative. Spirit also offers a Spirit Plus (first class) section, but I did not take advantage of this as of yet, so I don't feel qualified to review it.
Thanks for reading,
Kat
