| tccarroll's Full Review: Carnival Imagination |
My in-laws recently celebrated their retirement and 20th anniversary by taking the whole family on a cruise. As you'd expect we took Carnival's Western Carribbean cruise on the Imagination.
Having just gone on a cruise last year--and loving it--my wife and I were excited to go again. While I can't say that I didn't enjoy myself, I can say that I'll never take another 5 day cruise again, especially if it has more than one port of call.
You'd expect that with stops like the Cayman Islands and Jamaica that it would be a tropical blast, right? Well, with just 6 or so hours in each stop, there wasn't much to see of either of these beautiful islands.
The Cayman's were a blur! My SCUBA trip was cancelled because of rough seas and a person can only get so excited about seeing banks (Those of you that have been there know what I mean.). So after getting a t-shirt it was back on the boat and on to Jamaica.
Things got a little better in Jamaica. We signed up for an excursion to Dunne's River Falls and snorkeling. We hopped a chartered yacht and went a few miles down the coast to Dunne's River. The falls have been turned into a tourist attraction where you can walk up them. It was definitely the most fun that we had on the trip. Some parts were really difficult to manage, but it was a blast. You get soaking wet and some really great pictures.
The snorkeling was pretty good, too. The only problem was that because we were so close to the mouth of the river, its fresh water mixed with the saltwater of the ocean caused some visibility problems. But there were quite a few fish to see. I broke open an urchin and fed the fish right out of the palm of my hand. After a while it was back on the yacht.
The ship itself was quite a bit larger than our last ship, the Norwegian Majesty. The rooms were as big as most land-based hotel rooms. The two-deck theatre was amazing! It had a great light show and sound system. It even had trapdoors in the stage where the performers would make surprise entrances and exits.
On the whole, it was a very enjoyable trip, but before I come back to Carnival, I think that I'll give a few more of the other cruise lines a shot.
