Overview
This was my third voyage on a Celebrity ship (I had been on the Meridian and Horizon about 10 years ago), but my husband's first (he had only been on Carnival ships before). I had high expectations, as my two previous cruises with Celebrity were memorable and wonderful vacations. From the moment we boarded the ship in Vancouver, everything was better than we imagined!
Our Cabin
Since it was our honeymoon, we decided to splurge for a suite. It was only $300 more for the week than an outside stateroom with a balcony and well worth it. We had a huge cabin complete with a jacuzzi tub in the bathroom. We had more than enough closet and bureau space for our clothes, shoes, etc. and were able to store our suitcases in the closet. Our room had a ~200 sq. ft. private patio with lounge chairs and tables that we enjoyed. We had a perfect view of the ocean, glaciers, shore, etc. for the entire cruise. Since we had a suite, we had a butler in addition to the cabin steward. Our butler, Andy, was fantastic. He brought us tea and cookies every afternoon and h'ors d'ouevres before we went to dinner. He took care of any requests we had and made sure we had fresh fruit in our cabin each day. The cabin was always spotless and the toiletries in the bathroom were very nice.
The Food
Delicious! Our only complaint about the food is that we were physically unable to eat as much as we would have liked (due to normal-sized stomachs). Everything was beautiful to look at and delicious to eat! The dining room food and service were incredible, every meal in there was very special. The buffets were just as appetizing and the food was always very fresh. All breads are baked daily on the ship, and the selection is amazing. We took a tour of the galley, I suggest doing it to see how large of an operation it really is. The grand midnight buffet on the last formal night was a work of art, and the chef were all so proud of it. We ate plenty of smoked salmon and crab legs.
The Casino
We are not big gamblers, but enjoyed the casino on the Mercury. The dealers were very friendly and patient. I learned how to play roulette and Caribbean Stud Poker on board, and the dealers were very helpful with explaining the rules and various strategies. It was not at all an intimidating casino like you might find in Las Vegas.
The Service
Every single employee on the ship was sincerely happy to be there and wanted to make your cruise a memorable experience. It was apparent that they take great care in selecting the right type of employee for their ships. We met so many amazing employees on the ship who went out of their way to make our honeymoon very special. The crew represented a wide variety of nationalities, this diversity made the voyage charming. Our waiter and his assistant were charming and fascinating people. All of the crew we came in contact with were very polite and willing to please.
Things to Do Onboard
There were plenty of things to keep you busy onboard. We enjoyed the trivia and even won once. My husband enjoyed both nights of kareoke! The wine tasting was informative and the martini tasting taught us to enjoy more refined drinks. There was more than one occasion when we had to pick between several activities that were scheduled for the same time. The comedians were great and the shows were impressive, much better than your typical cheesy cruise entertainment.
Extras
We were invited to three cocktail parties for special guests-honeymooners, repeat Celebrity cruisers and Captain's Circle members. All three parties had free drinks and h'ors d'oeuvres and were enjoyable. The spa on the ship is top-notch. As a Captain's Circle member (I suggest you pay the $35 to join as it is well worth it!), I was given some coupons for the spa and made use of them. Since it was our honeymoon, we got a couples' massage and really enjoyed it. The ship itself is beautiful, very clean and tastefully designed. Everywhere you looked, someone was cleaning something, the crew took so much pride in the ship.
Summary
My husband and I enjoy the cruise immensely and can't wait to board another Celebrity ship. My husband now knows what cruising is supposed to be. A Celebrity cruise is a wonderful experience and I suggest it to anyone who wants to have a vacation of a lifetime.
