Pros: food in formal dining room, cleanliness
Cons: food elsewhere, customer service, children under 3
The Bottom Line: Celebrity Mercury has some real problems to overcome. Terrible for children under 3.

We paid an extra $500 to bring our 1 year old. They were only to provide a crib and high chair (no food, no bedding, no diapers). The crib presented to us did not meet any US safety standards. My son's head could fit through the bars. We opted to turn the mini-couch around and shove against the wall and use as a crib. It was always a struggle to get a high chair. There was only 1 on the entire ship with a tray.
At the breakfast and lunch buffets, there were plenty of waiters around, but only the first meal did they help get our food to the table and get a high chair. We were told to tip at the end of the cruise, but looking back, the only way we could have gotten decent service would be to hand out bills at each meal.
We chose this cruise because it was touted as having the best food. The food served in the formal dining restaurant was great, the rest was just OK.
The first 3 nights we tried to have the dinner. Ideally, we would put our son in a high chair with a handful of Cherrios on the tray in front of him to keep him happy. There was never a high chair ready, and not until an hour into the 3rd dinner did we get a tray! The 2nd dinner, we asked everyone that came to our table (waiter, busboy, maitre 'd) for a tray. They all promised, but never delivered. Because of this we had to spoon feed him and give constant attention, distracting us from our meal.
Unfortunately, we could not get them to serve us this dinner in less than 2 hours. Children tend to melt down after 60-90 minutes. We finished the first 2 dinners in our room. To try to speed things up, on the 3rd night we did not order appetizers, salads or soups - just the entree. They made us wait 1 hour for everyone else to eat their appetizers, soups and salads before we got our entrees.
What lousy service! We would have walked out of any regular restaurant, but we were captive on the ship! We ate our remaining dinners in our room, served by our cleaning maid! No beverages, salad dressing, drawn butter - but at least we got all our food at once!
We went to the customer relations desk. No one there spoke English well enough to understand our needs. Finally I met with the head of customer relations and the restaurant manager. The head of customer relations agreed with everything I said, then concluded by saying that "this was just a misunderstanding".
I don't think so...
