we took this trip as a nuclear family reunion in 1998.
rooms
we had three rooms. the outside room had ample space. the two inside rooms, each housing 2 adults and one 8 year old child were cramped. in one room the steward had to keep removing furniture to make more space. the room was not designed to have more than one person getting dressed at a time. the hangars in the closets needed to be higher to accommodate the hanging suitcases. more space was definitely needed.
room steward
always available 24 hours a day arranged to have room service brought in middle of night. (i was pregnant with late night cravings!)
waiters
superb, accommodating. they remembered all condiments we used while eating and placed them on the table immediately. they were familiar faces to see throughout the day at all different meals: breakfast, brunch, lunch, snack by the pool, dinner, midnight buffet.
entertainment
from chamber music to acappella: from 50's music to dance. they had it all in different lounges in the ship.
daily activities
my family participated in the following (and there were still a lot of things we wished we would have had the time to do):computer classes (my husband learned new techniques to use at home & at the office); full service spa; aerobics & full size track for running; ballroom dancing; a well stocked cigar bar with intriguing conversation & a steward who was able to set a superb atmosphere; not to mention sunbathing, reading, and gambling.
youth activities
each morning a schedule of activities for the day was under our door. we were able to discuss with our son & niece in which they were interested and then plan our day around it. the children were so excited to participate, they did not want to see us until bedtime. when we were in port, there were services available to allow the children stay on the ship if going into port was too tiresome. the counselors were experience with children, doing a great job getting everyone involved in activities & projects.
i would recommend this vacation for everyone. some planning may be necessary for larger groups. i want to do more activities, this time!this was such a wonderful vacation for everyone that we are taking another one in 2000. to improve our experience this time instead of just 8 of us there will be about 15-20. i'm even taking my new baby, who will be about 2!
