Pros: None
Cons: We were taken.
The Bottom Line: As to the Mississippi Queen, I never got on it. For the Delta Queen Steamboat Co., I would say "Avoid them like the plague."

My husband and I had planned for years to take a a cruise down the Mississippi, when both of us were ready to retire. As I am retiring next year (and he already had retired), we decided to make the cruise this fall.
We left our home in South Carolina on October 30, 2001, so excited and ready to climb aboard the boat at Memphis. When we were not met, I was uneasy, but we took a cab downtown anyway. There, after much calling and agony, we learned that the cruise had been canceled and that we were out of luck. The larger company (AMCV) , but not the Delta Queen Steamboat Co., had gone into bankruptcy, and no one had even had the courtesy to contact us. We then had, of course, the added expense of staying in Memphis until we could get flight back to South Carolina.
I can believe that bad things are happening to some companies in this time, but to totally ignore the customers who have dealt with them, and trusted them, is just unthinkable. If I were any of you, I would be very leery of any dealings with the Delta Queen Steamboat Co., although they claim that they are going to continue in business and will escrow your money for future bookings. That would be the ultimate in foolishness. If you do deal with them, be sure to charge your fare, as that will be your only chance for recoupment. It is indeed a sad day for America.
