Never have taken a cruise before. In the future, I now know that I will again.
The Disney Wonder is truly an amazing ship and a great cruise to go on. Upon arriving at the Port Canaveral, Florida docking station, you are greeted by some of the nicest people you'll ever meet. The Disney employees, a lot from international locales, are all very polite and completely cordial.
When first stepping onto the ship, you are surrounded by a myriad of hosts in an breathtaking ship who introduce to the crowd your family name. (They even give you a clap)
The staterooms are quite spacious, and from what I am told are much bigger than other ships'. There are plenty of pools on the ninth deck, including an adult pool for guests 18 and older. An ESPN Skybox bar is located on the ninth and tenth deck where anyone can watch their favorite ESPN aired games or catch an episode of Sportscenter.
A quite nice fitness club can also be found on the ninth deck. Nautilus equipment, saunas, a tropical rainforest, mud baths, massages, and a salon can all be utilized for a rather reasonable fee.
The fitness club should be utilized since you will be eating nonstop throughout the trip. Each night, you eat at a different restaurant, each with a different theme and a different menu. The nice thing about the dining is that your servers remain the same in each of the three restaurants, so you get to know them, but more importantly they get to know you, like what type of wine you like, and such.
There are plenty of snack bars all over the boat, some with pizza, another with ice cream, and one with burgers and dogs. Bars can be found throughout the boat serving both traditional and tropical drinks.
Route 66 provides nightlife for adults 18 and older. Live music shows, comedians, trivia, bingo, sock hops, dueling pianos, and all sorts of other entertainment can be found on the boat each night. A daily newsletter is placed in your stateroom the night before outlining what is available the next day. For kids, there is an arcade, a water slide, a movie theater (which premiered Lilo and Stitch while I was on board) and numerous other kid activities, like family Karaoke, Who wants to be a Mouseketeer, and other events.
There are three duty free shops on board, one offering mainly cheap liquor and cigarettes, and the other two offering memorabilia.
Your first full day is spent at Nassau, which is the capital of the Bahamas. Upon being hassled by more than friendly taxi drivers, there are some decent shops along the main street. Disney provides a preferred shop listing to avoid scams, which seem to be quite prevalent. A short taxi ride can bring you to Atlantis, which is a beautiful casino resort just across a short bridge from downtown Nassau.
Your next full day is spent at Castaway Cay, a private beach island owned exclusively by Disney. Here you can parasail, scuba dive, snorkel, catch some rays, rent a float, and just have fun on a gorgeous white sand beach. The water is crystal clear. Make sure you get a conch cooler, the island's specialty drink. Lunch is provided at Cookie's Barbeque.
This cruise is ideal for parents and kids of all ages. Adults, ages 18-25, might have a hard time finding the right entertainment, but to each their own. All in all, the Dinsey Wonder is a fine cruise and I would highly recommend it to all.
