In January 2008, my husband and I spent our 5 year anniversary on board the Crown Princess. We had 7 wonderful nights cruising the Southern Caribbean.
This ship offers something for everyone. It was beautifully decorated. To me it didn't seem as big as it really was. I think that the public areas are broken down into many smaller areas, which helps it create a more intimate feel. I did feel a little more movement on the ship than I was expecting, but got used to it.
We had a Category BA balcony stateroom. The room is about what you come to expect on every cruise ship, the balcony though was huge! I spent many mornings and evening relaxing on the balcony. The balcony is partially covered, so the people can look down and see onto part of the balcony but it wasn't too bad. I liked having the sun.
It has one traditional dining room, and two anytime dining rooms. We had anytime dining and alternated between the two dining rooms. Only a couple times we had to wait a maximum of 10 minutes to be seated. We loved the flexibility of anytime dining. I thought the food was pretty good, not the best I had, but I definitely enjoyed it.
There were 2 buffets, the Horizon Court and Cafe Caribe. Each area was divided. There was generally a good selection, but I preferred the dining room. Definitely do miss the Horizon court on the first night for the Seafood Buffet, shrimp, lobster claws...yummy!
There are a few alternate dining venues (additional fee), Crown Grille, Sabatini's, and Vines Wine & Seafood Bar. The only one we got a chance to try was Vines for a sushi fix. They didn't have much of a selection, but it satisfied us, and the price wasn't bad.
I loved the International Cafe on Deck 5, they had yummy food: greek salad, shrimp salad, quiches, sandwiches, cookies, etc. If you can catch the chocolate chip cookies right out of the oven....yummy! Most items were with no charge. Some, mostly the sweet stuff, had a charge. My favorite was the white chocolate covered strawberries for $1 each. Grab a couple and I would be good to go.
There are many bars and lounges. Crooners was a piano lounge, nice place to grab a drink before dinner. Skywalkers was the nightclub. Wheelhouse usually had a band playing. Outrigger was an outdoor bar by the adult pool. Explorers lounge would have bands or comedians. There was also a bar at the International cafe where you could get coffee and lattes, as well as a cocktail. There's more, just didn't get a change to visit them all!
The ship has 4 pools, a spa pool, an adult pool, and 2 main pools. Better yet, they are fresh water pools! During the times I was at either the main pool(s) or the adult pool, didn't have much trouble finding a place to relax.
On the sports deck they had miniature golf, basketball courts, and some other sports related activities. Unfortunately the miniature golf was under remodel when we sailed.
They have many activities going on the ship at one time whether it was comedians, bands playing, movies under the stars, musicals, there was always something to do.
