We left San Francisco on Sunday morning using American Airlines - we arrived in San Juan, PR approx 8:30. We boarded a bus that was provided by Princess Cruises. We sat on the bus for only about five minutes before we were shuttled off to the ship.
Everything went very smoothly getting from home onto the ship. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The first evening on ship we went to dinner in the dinning room, as we were quite hungry from only having plane food since 5:00am - California time! The food was wonderful!! The staff was very attentive and even remembered our names and what we preferred to drink! The only problem on the first evening was that I almost missed sharing the "push off" event with my husband as we were separated from him for a while and we got lost on this huge ship!
Our cruise was a seven day cruise - we were at sea the first day - my suggestion is that if you want to lay out by the pool -- get up early and head on out there!!! I decided sleep sounded like a better alternative and was fighting for a chair the rest of the day!
Our first port was Aruba. I went on a snorkeling trip while we were there and we had a great time! This was probably my highlight of the trip! We didn't bother getting off at the 2nd stop as it was Caracas - as my husband calls it - the crack of my ass - it was a very dirty, smelly port - we found out we stop there for VERY cheap gas!! -
We did the beach scene in Grenada - beware - they will hunt you down and try to get you to buy everything!!! I was solicited to have my hair braided by five different women. This was very annoying when I was trying to read my book and enjoy my vacation!! I paid a lot of money to go on this cruise and this was one thing I didn't enjoy. I was offered everything from swimsuit cover-ups, hair braids, purses, to spice necklaces! In Dominique we hired a taxi driver to be our guide of the island. ($100 + $20 tip ($120 total) to take 5 people around) - we felt this was a bargain as we were not being solicited by anyone to buy their goods, we were given an informational tour and we were able to go to the actual Emerald Pool whereas if you took the tour that was offered through Princess Cruises you couldn't go all the way to the pool, you had to stop further up and look down upon it.
Our last stop was St. Thomas. We decided to do some shopping here. We actually wished we had taken a water taxi to St. John as we had heard it is beautiful there and you don't have the solicitors that you have in Grenada but oh well! Live and learn!
Overall this was a great cruise - a bit pricey however I wouldn't recommend this cruise to a young single person, as there were mostly families and older people on this cruise.
