| kgm's Full Review: Royal Caribbean Legend of the Seas |
My wife and I booked a cruise on the LEGEND OF THE SEAS from Singapore to Hong Kong, 9 February to 1 March, 2000. The cruise visited Port Kelang/Kuala Lumpur (Malaysia), Bali, Bangkok, Vung Tau/Saigon(Vietnam), Brunei and Manila. It turned out to be the best holiday we ever had!
The ship is beautiful, immaculately clean and full of daylight, due to the enormous glass windows in the lobby (6 stories high!), dining rooms, etc. Our cabin (outside, deck 3) was not particularly big, but very comfortable, well furnished and with a large window.
The staff on the ship was very friendly, from pursers to dining room staff. Food was excellent initially, but went down to just good in choice and imagination after Bangkok.
The entertainment was superb, including review shows with wonderful dancers and singers, comedians, singers, a solo pianist, folklore, . . . Great performances!
The exercise room (again, with large glass windows all round) has a wide range of modern exercise machines. The spa has saunas and steam rooms. The solarium is world class, with a pool, two whirlpools, and a nice bar. The glass sliding roof covering the whole area is unique. The architecture is beautiful.
Negative points? Mainly the excursions offered. On Bali, e.g., our tour spent too much time at shops. The guide was not a professional and had little to tell. In general, the tours are too expensive and too superficial. A notable exception: the Bangkok Overnight tour, a great event with a good guide.
When we landed in Hong Kong and had to leave the ship, we were very sad. The holiday was beautiful, and we are looking forward to sailing again with RCCI. (We had sailed with the MONARCH OF THE SEAS before, another great holiday experience.)
