Pros: Newly refurbished ship, food quality, friendliness of staff
Cons: Even non-alcoholic beverages were not free, several food vendors closed at 11pm
The Bottom Line: Without having other cruise experiences to compare this to, I thought it was a very nice ship, with excellent staff.

| mattmeitzner's Full Review: Royal Caribbean Majesty of the Seas |
This was my first cruise, so I really don't have other ships to compare the Majesty of the Seas to. However, with that said, hopefully this review will still be useful since the ship had just come from "dry dock" and was completely refurbished.
We chose the Majesty of the Seas due to the cruise destinations - one day in Coco Cay (a private island owned by Royal Caribbean), and one day in Nassau, the Bahamas. My fiancee and I actually got married on the ship while docked in Miami, and then left for the short 3-day cruise with our immediate families.
My first impression was how big the ship was (later on, when it was docked next to another cruise liner, we saw this was actually just the opposite - it's actually small comparatively speaking). The second thing I was taken with was how nice everything inside was. Maybe it was because we were on the very first sailing after it was refurbished, but all the carpets, railings, bed linens, etc. were in excellent shape.
Our wedding went off without a hitch, and I would recommend using Royal Romance (Royal Caribbean's wedding coordinators) for any low-key wedding. We only had 15 people in attendance, so the entire lounge was a little much, but it was much better to have it too large than too small. We had paid for ceasar salads, appetizers, wedding cake and champagne for everyone, and the food for the wedding was very good.
After the wedding, we had access to our rooms, and the rest of the ship's amenities. Soon thereafter the ship set sail and we were on our way. We did have a couple of days when the ship was rocking pretty good. Some said that it was due to the smaller size of the ship, others said it was a passing cold front that would cause any ship to bow and sway. It didn't bother me too much, but we were on the 3rd floor then again. Had we been on the 9th or 12th floor, it may have been a different story.
The food on the cruise I felt was very good. It seemed weird that although most food was included, they charged for sodas and other non-alcoholic drinks. Also not included was the ice cream stands, and the coffee shop drinks (also, these two facilities shut down at 11:00pm, so don't plan on any late-night ice cream or coffee, even if you are willing to pay for it) You can wait until the midnight buffet opens, but we were more about instant gratification. Furthermore, there was a Johnny Rockets on board, which charged a nominal $3.50 "sitting fee" per person. Once that was out of the way though, all the burgers and fries you want cost nothing. The quality of the food was pretty good too, by my standards. The cafeteria-style selection food in the Windjammer cafe was pretty wide, and was also very decent, while the dining room food was a step up - I would qualify it as fine dining.
The service on the ship was also outstanding. Our state room attendant was always present, and was at our beck and call for anything we needed. He delivered complimentary champagne and chocolate covered strawberries to our room on the first night, because someone tipped him off to our newlywed status. He was very pleasant and approachable as well. Some service professionals I have encountered will do anything you ask, but they make you feel as though you are putting them out. Not so with Nevin - he made it seem as though it was truly his pleasure to help out in any way he could. How refreshing!
Finally, the entertainment on board was okay. I guess it was traditional cruise-ship entertainment (so said my family who had been on cruises before), but it didn't really interest me. Singers who didn't really sound like the artists they were emulating, and comedian impressionists who didn't sound anything like the butts of their jokes. No worries though, as we just went to the casino and had a good time. The casino itself was pretty small, but we actually never had a problem getting a spot at a slot machine or roulette table. My father-in-law played some Texas hold'em, and had to wait about 20 minutes to get in a game, but even at Las Vegas you have to wait to play poker nowadays.
